Bosch, Milwaukee etc. should be serviceable, I'd think, I'd avoid the really cheap ones as they run way out of true. Depending on how much room there is some impact drivers have a drill only setting. That would be shorter than most drills...
I've tried probably 30+ times over the years without any success. I've tried my own cultures, I've been given cultures, I've bought cultures. I seem to have the kiss of death with them.
There is no comparison, though. it's only ten minutes to make the dough and a few minutes to knock it back, you just need to think about it before you need it.
No baking posts for a while, has everyone given it up? First proving nine hours in the fridge, second proving seven hours at room temperature. The first time I've done it that way around.
Incidentally, don't attempt to use an auger in bench drill unless you can offset the wood and allow the auger to go all the way through, it's dangerous.
A forstner or an HSS drill bit of course is fine, there's no draw.
If you've decent sized legs on your bench you'll need to go deeper than 2". A cheap router is not going to do that. Do it by hand with a decent auger and sharp chisels.
