Through housing with router table or hand-held router

This is my router table - I can see what you mean about setting the fence - but I'm concerned that if I'm routing a housing across a length of stock I'll be referencing off the shorter edge and it will potentially be unstable as I move the workpiece across the fence and over the router bit. Any...

Through housing with router table or hand-held router

I'm needing to create some through housing joinery (what the Yanks would call a dado, right?) and I'm wondering whether it would be best/safest to use a hand-held router or a the router table? American woodworkers would perhaps use a dado stack, but British table saws aren't setup to use them...

    Shared workshop in York?

Hi I am looking to find like-minded people to share a workshop space with. This is for woodwork rather than woodturning. I am a hobbyist and an infrequent one at that due to a young family. I have various tools (SCMS, table saw, router table, pillar drill etc) which could either be...

    Plywood

Hi Tips on plywood purchasing, please. I want to make some reasonably basic items from plywood. The plywood doesn't need to be utterly, utterly beautiful and flawless (for which I would try and find some 'baltic' ply?) but neither should the plywood be of a construction grade. It should be...

I cant believe how hard it is...

I know. I found them to be unhelpful and a bit pricey. Shame they're gone, though.

I cant believe how hard it is...

Just out of interest, what was it about Boddy's that left you unimpressed? Price? Range? Service? Thanks

    Kitchen bench seat

OK, so previously I've posted a question asking about making a kitchen bench seat but I already had in mind how I wanted to do it. This time, I'm asking you guys first. If I'd like to make a simple, built-in kitchen bench with a bench seat along ONE side of the wall only (no corners), how would...

    Wet rot

Hi Anybody aware of a product called (or sounding like) 'raspberry' which allegedly pulls out the damp black mould from wet rotted wood? Apparently it's an old and venerated product. thanks

How to get a flat bottom?

Hi Hope you like the title. I am trying to make one of these (it's an iPhone stand) and I'm doing wellish...I made the cuts for the phone on my TS with the blade at a 25deg angle. It's got the material removed accurately but the bottom of the cut is ragged and it's an awkward space to get...

Got a couple of logs from a felled tree....

OK I know I need to get a pic of a leaf but for now here are the logs themselves. Leaves to follow!

Got a couple of logs from a felled tree....

So a tree came down in the storm last night and a couple of the logs being chopped up were offered to me. So now I have some hardwood logs (species of tree not immediately obvious). I'd like to get them sawn into boards and possibly kiln dried so that I can use them sooner rather than later...

Built in bench seat with storage

Hi I'd like to build a bench seat with storage for our kitchen ostensibly out of 'oak'. Because I'll be using oak (£££), and because I can't go and SEE the timber before buying, I wanted to run it by someone if possible? So I've found SL Hardwoods who seem to have a reasonable range and good...

Safely removing quite a lot of material from a block of wood

How much material would you try to take off in each pass? I found the router bit very throwy. Hence my unease with this method, push sticks or no.

Safely removing quite a lot of material from a block of wood

Quite. I had that thought whilst I was struggling. Got there in the end. Thanks for all the suggestions. Back saw is another good (obvious now) one. :-) ](*,)

Safely removing quite a lot of material from a block of wood

Yep, I don't know why I didn't think of this at the time!

Safely removing quite a lot of material from a block of wood

Length of wood was 95mm, thickness 45mm, width 110mm. So, as I say, possible to hold in your hand, and feels a bit frightening to use on a router table. Thinking about it now, I think I should have used the bandsaw. Although it wouldn't be as precise, it would have been a lot safer and quicker...

Safely removing quite a lot of material from a block of wood

Hi Today I was faced with this, at face value, quite simple problem. How to remove a lot of material (30mm worth) from a block of wood you can hold in your hand...but leave a 12mm lip. I've attached a picture to better illustrate this! At first I tried routing out the material, raising the...

In my case (can't speak for Dicky) the Makita's connector is thread locked on.
