Chipped edges on new planes and do new planes need sharpening before use?

It's an interesting idea, but it does lead to a legal grey area, potentially, I reckon. If the purchaser is then unhappy with the tool and returns it, the dealer may be in a difficult position with the manufacturer, having altered the tool before supplying it. Is it the dealer's fault or the...

    Wetstone

Pedantry in this case might be useful. Do you mean a whetstone.......which is any stone on which honing is done, or do you mean stones which are wet (ie water stones or those slow rotating wheels in a trough of water)?

    What hinges to use?

No, it's from about 15 years ago.

Home Office - Wall Finish Help

The thing is, polythene comes in big rolls, so it's surprisingly expensive. DPM is getting on for £60 +VAT. The plastic won't be inconsequential.....put it that way. You're right though, if you aren't bothered about the robustness of the wall then it's likely the cheapest option.

    What hinges to use?

I put a capping piece on this one, but it isn't straight. I used lay-on T hinges.

    Couch end tables

Rotate them 90 degrees and they become coffee tables! :)

    What hinges to use?

How about a straight capping piece over the top of that construction, mitred at the corners, and going around all four sides? Then you could use orthodox butt hinges.

Home Office - Wall Finish Help

It needs to be foil backed, or to have a separate vapour barrier......so the saving won't be quite as much as you might think. Then it needs to be skimmed, or taped and filled.

Home Office - Wall Finish Help

Many if not most workshop builds on here and elsewhere in the last few years have used OSB internally, painted.

Planer Thicknesser in a small workshop, worth it?

Yeah, I've got hatches. So did my last workshop.

Planer Thicknesser in a small workshop, worth it?

I have 30 square metres of floor space, and don't consider I have enough room for a table saw. A bandsaw does the ripping, hand-held circular saw deals with sheet materials, and a RAS does the repetitive cross cuts (although I tend to cross cut by hand).

    Sold my first project today

I think that proves that Ebay isn't the best place for selling handcrafted stuff. Not that I know what is..... :)

    Some more questions re. shed

This. And be careful. It's hard to stop the boards slipping off the roof. Nail on some temporary battens, or get a couple of helpers.......and don't stand underneath them, ever.

Ready Mixed Red Mortar Patch/Pointing Repair

Mortar isn't the answer for the problem you describe, Geoff. It sounds like you are trying to get mortar to look like brick, and that will never happen.

Planer Thicknesser in a small workshop, worth it?

I'd have the P/T every day of the week ahead of the tablesaw. If you don't have room for both, keep the planer and sell the saw.

    Enough clamps??

That's all very well, Frank, but although they're available here, they're relatively expensive and relatively rare. Being cheap in California is not a lot of use to us. - Couldn't you type out "you"? This isn't a text message/ SMS forum.
