Mahogany and Oak box with chessboard style inlay lid - finished in OSMO

Just glue the middle inch or two of each edge. That way it won't rattle around, but can still expand and contract with seasonal humidity variations.

    Marking and measuring...

Is that directed at me? If so, that A/ wouldn't beat my knife and B/ why would I buy something when I've already got one?

    Laburnum source (now resolved thanks).

    Sissinghurst? Hever Castle?

    Laburnum source (now resolved thanks).

How do you actually know it is laburnum, Adrian?

    CNC Clock Build W.I.P.

Well, I can read that OK, and thanks for doing the conversion. I'm really not sure why you'd go to all the trouble with all the formatting and so on, rather than just write your text directly into the forum in a text box, inserting pictures at the appropriate places. It's the way everyone else...

    dont they know

You've made the mental leap from an advertisement appearing on your lap top to the country needing National Service. Righto......

    Marking and measuring...

;) No, in Wales, you've been using a rod. If you were in the USA, you'd have been using a story pole/ story stick.

    Marking and measuring...

I'm with all those who don't measure very much. Essentially, I will measure and mark a horizontal component, a vertical component, and a front-to-back component early on in the project, and then pretty much put the tape measure away. I derive my marks from the pieces I've made. My "Eureka"...

    CNC Clock Build W.I.P.

Personally, I'd love to see images of the clock being made, but I'm not going to be opening PDFs. Why not just post photos like everyone else?

    CAD - Computer Aided Dilemma?

No, no. It's an aesthetic choice.

Advice on making a floating bed

There's no good reason not to use beech, if that's what your client (!) wants. How far in are the feet from the edge?

    Poor man's sliding table

I take a few photos, as you do Steve. The thing is, it's me holding the camera and pressing the button, so I can never appear in the piccies. You, on the other hand, are in almost all of yours. Either you have a professional photographer following your every move, or you've got some sort of...

    CAD - Computer Aided Dilemma?

I do that on planning applications sometimes. I'm more than happy to sketch in 3D for clients (sometimes upside down so they can see easier), but when it comes to Planning Applications there is a duty not to mislead, so I make a proper 3D model, print it, then put it up to the window and trace...

Weather Proofing a Shed Gable End

As I say.....any way you like. Put a piece of wood over it. Wrap it in a membrane. Wrap it in plastic (not the approach I would take). Paint it with bitumen or "Black Jack". Hang tiles over it. Anything you can think of which will keep it dry is good enough.

    Bandsaw drift

Just to chuck in a new line of conversation regarding blade drift, one that applies only to worn blades. Setting your saw up perfectly doesn't mean it will stay that way until the blade needs replacing. If you wear your blade teeth more on one side than the other, for instance by cutting a lot...
