Converting a flat bottomed spokeshave to round bottom.

Before I wreck a perfectly good but quite worn wooden spokeshave, has anyone done the experiment of converting from flat bottomed to round bottomed? I really can't see why it wouldn't work. The work should still present at the front edge of the blade at the same angle, it's just that the back...

    Some more questions re. shed

Onduline is fine. EPDM is much better. You'll have no issue with Planning over using it in preference to mineral felt.

    Green oak, post/beam joint.

Heavy. You'll need two people. It's easy enough to handle on your own on saw horses etc, but getting it up some stairs is going to be a trial if you attempt it alone.

Minor computer irritation. Can anyone help?

I put a question on here a while about One Drive. I don't use it, but it has its sticky little fingers everywhere.

    Work Boots

Nightmare, Bob. The tip always seems to break off, and the wound always gets infected. I hate blackthorn, and have got about 30 yards of blackthorn hedge!

    Some more questions re. shed

OK, then, 145 x 45 rafters at 600 centres, max (allows for 100 or 125mm of insulation at rafter level). 120 or 145 x 45 ties to each pair of rafters, bolted (these must be in the lower 1/3rd of the rafter length). If you leave out only one tie to give yourself access to the storage space, then...

Minor computer irritation. Can anyone help?

I've got both an EHD and a USB stick. The folders were created on my Desktop. They're not shortcuts.

    Some more questions re. shed

It's not as simple as that John. The whole roof needs to be looked at as one. If there are ties, for instance, then there doesn't technically need to be a ridge at all. If you're only spanning 3m then your timbers only need to be quite small structurally, but might be forced larger to give you...

    Some more questions re. shed

Yep, you can do that John. It is critical with any tarp arrangement that there is a high centre, fully supported, so a good ridge beam for instance. Otherwise you will get a swimming pool full of water on the tarp before it collapses.

    Work Boots

My boots have this too. I did the hedge a couple of days ago and stood on a blackthorn. It went straight through the sole, and straight into the base of one of my toes. I haven't walked well since. It seems that the steel mid-sole doesn't extend under the entire sole, but finishes a little short...

Minor computer irritation. Can anyone help?

Yes, Bill, and it makes no difference. It seems that every folder on my desktop, new or old, has "Read Only" ticked, no matter what I do.

    Picture frame, first attempt !

Quick 'n dirty illustration, but yes, you're right. However, on a picture frame or similar 4 sided figure it matters less, because the other pieces keep everything square.

How do you store your drill bits?

Until yesterday I had an old wine bottle box with all of my augers, HSS wood drill bits, spade bits, masonry bits, lip & spur bits, and so on, all just chucked in there loose. Now I have this:

    Project 1: Bench Hook

Excellent Bill. Well done. Everyone's first project should be a bench hook. Having said that, a bench hook doesn't last very long. Every time you use it you damage it. Therefore making it so posh is only going to make you reluctant to use it. On the design side........I have come to the firm...

Minor computer irritation. Can anyone help?

I keep running into "Path not found". I've tried all sorts of variants of c:\ Desktop_Work with no luck. All my important folders are stored on my desktop.

    Drill Till

Interesting. I've had that when I've used oak, and thought it was just the usual oak/ steel thing. I'll watch for that with this old pine.

    Rained much

The daddy of all thunderstorms dropped an almighty amount of water on us overnight*, with an impressive sound and light show for accompaniment. Considering we'd had 6 days in a row over 30, with humidity up around 80 percent or more, we were desperate for a change. It was so dramatic that the...

Absolutely. All my workshop storage is from crappy reclaimed wood.

    Drill Till

Is that what it's called? Anyway, using scrap from an old Ikea hanging thing (wardrobe would be dignifying it unjustifiably), and hand tools only, I finally, 40 years on, made somewhere to keep all those loose drill bits in order: I painstakingly plugged and Dutchmanned all the old fixing...
