    Some more questions re. shed

No. The staples are a temporary fixing (but left in permanently). The membrane is held in place by the counterbattens, in the same way that roof membrane is stapled first, but actually held permanently by the tile battens.

Yet another english style workbench build

Great progress so far, and you're clearly learning a lot in the process. Next time (!! :) ), I'm sure you'll take great care to set out your material such that you cut joints in a knot-free part of the wood. Anyone walking into my workshop when I am tackling a new job and a pile of wood will...

Tools and machines for my workshop?

I couldn't agree more. I have a 10" PT, and keep running into its limits. Through-and-through oak boards, for instance, even after I've ripped them down from waney edge, are often 400+mm wide. If you have a 10" PT, you'll end up hand planing quite a lot, or looking for a friend with a bigger...

    Some more questions re. shed

One wall at a time is fine, so long as you leave enough overlap.

Hey, they're not too shabby, Bill.

Dovetail saw, bog oak handle now SOLD

It doesn't bother me. Noel's gone missing again. We're going to be getting a new mod team soon, and hopefully some new rules for the For Sale section. If someone in charge really takes ummbrage they'll clean out the thread, so I wouldn't worry.

Best joint for 3 way joint

No. You'll be taking the entire weight of the roof onto the tenon. Posts are underneath beams so that joints aren't taking the dead-loads. Here's another view:

Best joint for 3 way joint

This is what I mean (albeit the tie is incomplete in this case as the door posts cut through it):

Best joint for 3 way joint

The normal thing, Custard, is to design the joint out. You don't find 3 bits of wood meeting at their ends at a corner in traditional framing. At a porch, the post would generally meet the wall plate (which overhangs slightly) with a M&T, and the tie (across the front of the porch) is raised...

Tools and machines for my workshop?

Really? It's not like they're easily movable. With all his other kit, and a bench, and bearing in mind where they'll need to stand to be able to take longer boards, you honestly think he's got the space in 15 sq m?

Best joint for 3 way joint

So this is an oak framed porch, or similar traditional framing?

    100mm square?

Is it time to buy a new tool... router table / table saw / spindle moulder?

Obviously made for the American market. Here they're planers. A planer to an American is a thicknesser to us.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Let us know how that lasts in that rather testing environment. I've not had the best of luck with it.

Tools and machines for my workshop?

Wonderful machines, but do you honestly think he's got room for them in a single garage?

Is it time to buy a new tool... router table / table saw / spindle moulder?

The irony is that often hand-tool work is quicker than machine work for one-offs. One dovetailed drawer ......In a childish race I've beaten a mate who used some fancy dovetail jig with his router. Two drawers and he'd have been all over me, and three or four ....he'd have been home with his...

Outdoors charred oak and tung oil

Well, given that none of the oils will last any time at all, there isn't much point in choosing one above any other (except as you point out, if there is any planting which could be affected). Chuck whatever you have to hand on it, take your photos, then say goodbye to it because it will be gone...

Dovetail saw, bog oak handle now SOLD

Is it? I'll have Carruthers flog me later. I have to say I am never 100% confident in counting teeth, never being completely sure where to start and stop. Edit...this site has confused me further. They claim TPI is American, and PPI is European...and then give an example which counts the tooth...
