    Door stop advice please.

How wide does the door open, Adrian? If it opens close to 180 degrees do you have scope for something like this:

    He's got a 5" gap. That'll be quite an impressive wedge. :)

    Stanley 50s instructions.

Peter, it's 16 years since anyone posted in this thread. I don't think any of the posters are still active here. Either find another (later) thread on the same subject, or start a new one.

I'm on his ignore list, so Carruthers re-educating him via the bull-whip will come as something of a shock.

You know if I tell you I'll have to kill you? :) There will be one if the client wants one.......and he'll certainly be offered the opportunity.

There'll definitely be some structural engineering input into this one. Paper is heavy. Wood is heavy.

Thanks for the thoughtful post, MM. Much appreciated. I'm completely with you on timber choice, and suspect that the final choice is going to boil down to oak, walnut or cherry. I'd never get involved with a project that uses mahogany. I'm afraid that you are never going to see anything of this...

Lovely, Ben. Really nice. This will be grand country house style, rather than aisled barn style, though.

    Door stop advice please.

Can you set anything into the limestone patio? A gate hold-back catch works a treat, but is obviously a trip hazard when the door is shut. A blacksmith made version rather than the one I linked to would be best, with a ball for the weight.

I suspect we'll end up with fixed shelves.

Erm.....take a look at the photos on the previous page and see if A/ a torsion box would be suitable for the style of library, and B/ whether saving money is anywhere on the list of criteria for this project. Those photos really are representative of the scale and style of this project. If...

Hand drawn turned Olive wood coaster project.

I'd like to see that reading down to 10 or 12%, personally, before making something like this.....but I haven't used olive, and you have. I hope it stays OK, because that's a lot of work spoiled if it doesn't!

    Dealing with shakes in timber

Utilitarian workshop kit..........those bits will be fine, glued up (so long as you keep the joints away from the shakes). Be aware that sleepers are unseasoned, and you are using it as if it is seasoned, so you can expect more of this sort of issue. Don't, whatever you do, approach timber for a...

    Buying habbits !

How did he fit skirting without a coping saw? Did he just use a jigsaw carefully, and leave it up to the decorator to sort out?

Rods. They're called rods. One of our former colonies calls them story sticks, but they're wrong, as usual.
