DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Yep, that'll be on account of my window and door being under the eaves. Sorry. I've just nipped out and taken these two.....utitlity door, and bike shed door:

    Yep...arithmetical error.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Can be, but you'll have awkward cutouts in your boarding. Mine is flush with the verticals. You door frame is going to sit in behind those liner boards, isn't it? Therefore a slope on the top of the cheek pieces won't make any difference, surely.

    A

AC Timber, Ely. They'll deliver (free) to Cambridge, providing your order is over £500. NEVER buy hardwood sight-unseen. Inspect every board before you buy. So I suggest going to the yard, selecting your timber, then getting them to deliver it.

    Replacing stairs

I think that depends on how the riser meets the tread. If the riser hangs below the tread and is nailed to it (the normal way), then obviously the tread has to be in place before the riser above. This will mean you have to work from the bottom, and it also means that you would have to remove the...

    Library shelves

It's useful to have these in the back of the mind, but I can foresee a fluted "column" over every other divider, with doors hinged off each side. This could be with a mini Parliament hinge, again enabling 180 degree opening. This would get around the need for the butterfly-type hinge.

    Library shelves

Thanks Richard......nice drawing. So one pair of hinges carries 2 doors, and both can be opened to 90 degrees at the same time. Neat.

    Replacing stairs

It might be sensible to replace them one at a time, rather than try to remove all the treads and risers at once. This will help to keep the strings and newels correctly orientated. You might have fun getting the old woodwork cleanly out of the housings, and it is there that I'd be focusing my...

    Library shelves

The design will be buttoned down to the finest visible detail, with all the mouldings and carvings drawn closely, the timber and finish specified, the ironmongery specified, and so on, before it goes to tender. The winning tenderer will then, as always, get a chance to comment on things and...

    Any idea - maybe silly

Pete....click on the link in my post. There's a guy getting 300,000 views a fortnight (sometimes up to 500,000) on a woodwork project......with 250,000 subscribers. Thanks for the breakdown. So Leo will be getting £4000 to £6000 per fortnight from Youtube ads alone.

    Dealing with shakes in timber

I'd definitely avoid fixings through the cracked areas. These only introduce another point of weakness, and can result in another shake starting. The fundamental point, though, is that a lathe stand needs to be heavy, stable and sturdy, and so a big lump of steel is likely a better idea than a...

Fitting simonswerk tectus hinge without jig

That shouldn't be hard, (you'd need a router plane or a router), but it would also be simple to make yourself a guide for a router out of MDF and softwood, to suit a straight cutter and a guide plate.

    Door stop advice please.

I posted that suggestion right at the start of the thread.

Don't suppose you could post an image or two, could you? I'm struggling to visualise that from the description.

I have to be a bit careful with regards client confidentiality, so I won't be talking about the building. I can say, though, that the library will be very much in keeping with its setting.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Pentice board, DBT85. Replace that top board over the door with one slightly wider, cut a little slope on the top of the side pieces, so that the pentice board slopes down and out a little. You can also cut a piece of DPC and sit it over the top and up the wall, so that any water that gets in...

    Any idea - maybe silly

Peter, roughly how much money will someone with 250,000 subscribers and 330,000 ish views per fortnightly video be earning directly from Youtube? Never mind Patreon etc.

    Library shelves

We'll certainly be having a conversation about that. There are all sorts of consultants involved with this project, and it's big enough that a sprinkler system would be considered.

    Door stop advice please.

The sprung hook thing, like my wooden ones, hanging off the rafters......or perhaps fixed to the return wall. It suits the auto-engagement/ quick release criteria.
