Not everyone finds woodwork quite so easy.

Yeah, but don't post them in this thread, Nigel. This is about a guy with serious health problems.

    Which insulation to use

Yep, that's what it is best at.....renovations.

Cost for wood to be cut to length

What sort of wood are you wanting? It sounds like a hardwood to me.

Not everyone finds woodwork quite so easy.

Well, that's the "how" sorted. Next, we need to work on the "where". ;)

    Shaker Furniture, Harvard Table

It's the short grain in the legs/ feet which make me a bit worried. It looks as though if you were to lean your elbows on it you'd end up face-first on top of the wreckage of it on the floor!

    Which insulation to use

Did you mean PU, or PIR?

    Which insulation to use

It's not a good comparison, frankly. The Pavatex, which I have used a number of times, is a relatively poor insulator, but is breathable, and (I can never remember the proper word....hydraphylic/ hydrophobic, hydrasomething.....) absorbs moisture readily to release it slowly when the relative...

    Cut Resistant Gloves

You didn't learn the second verse, then? Destroy a blade, and you definitely will. Eventually. :)

Not everyone finds woodwork quite so easy.

That really wasn't the point of the story, though. The point was to highlight the response, and the disproportionate amount of effort some people have to put in to achieve what others take for granted.

    Cut Resistant Gloves

Yeah, sorry to be boring, but avoiding slashing yourself open is a matter of technique and discipline, and not of protective gear. If you never ever have any flesh anywhere in front of a sharpened edge, the chances of cutting yourself are very small.

Not everyone finds woodwork quite so easy.

Agreed, Pete, but the only way I can see that happening is if no-one posted any photos. The less experienced and the less able are no doubt put off by the thought of having their work on show.

Advice on replacing raised beds in the garden

For a start, the timbers are just beginning to look nice. Secondly, what is to be gained by raising your veggies 5 or 6 inches above the surrounding ground? When the timber gives up the ghost in 5 or 20 years time, do your veggies at ground level.

Using benchtop machines without dust extraction kit

Again, not with my machine. Mine chucks the waste away from the cutters quite vigorously. Only if you really let the waste build up will it start blowing back through the actual work/ contact area.

    :) It wasn't you Bill. :)

    Grooving

No. You did say the ply was going to be on the inside. Or at least, that's how I read it.

Not everyone finds woodwork quite so easy.

Forgive me if this tale is a little mysterious, but I'm going to tell you a story. A few weeks ago I did a quick drawing for a fellow forumite who was running into a few problems with his shed. It took me about 45 minutes, I guess. I've known all along that this poster has some serious health...

    THEY'RE NOT JOINTERS. THEY'RE PLANERS.

Are expensive tenon saws worth it?

Tenon saws don't flex readily. They've got a stiff spine. Therefore I don't understand the assertion/ instruction/ claim.

    Acorns

The same factors are at work, though. If jays could eat all of the acorns they cached, the oak tree would fail to reproduce. If the oak tree increased its supply of acorns every year, the jay population would rise to meet the raised level of food supply, and all of the acorns would be...

    Grooving

Don't do that in ply. You'll cut through the laminations, it will splinter, and it will eventually delaminate. If the lining is internal, use MR MDF (I hate the stuff, but it's the best product for this job). Here's one I did a couple of days ago: The file, used at 45 degrees, chamfers the...
