Post a photo of the last thing you made

Ah, sorry. I missed that. Obviously he'll need waterproof PVA. The classic way to deal with PVA squeeze-out is to have a coat of the finish on the timber first, pre-gluing, then just wipe off the excess glue with a wet rag.

Not with PU glue. Leave it until it sets, but before it goes rock hard, then remove with a chisel, scraper or knife. If you try to clean it up with a straw, a cloth, or anything else whilst it is still wet, you'll end up with an almighty mess in quite a hurry.

Chipped edges on new planes and do new planes need sharpening before use?

So does a quick rub from an old candle, without quite so much work involved in the first place.

    Repurposing a blunt file?

It's rumoured that Jim Bowie had his famous knife forged from an old file. So if there's anyone you know who needs disemboweling...... :)

Chipped edges on new planes and do new planes need sharpening before use?

I'll be pleasantly surprised if that happens.

See the little set-back they have? Well next time (! :) ) if you were to have a little overhang of the upper body of the piece over the sub-structure you'd go from a 9-1/2 to a 10 out of 10. Just 4-6mm all round is all it needs. There's just a slight awkwardness where the ends with their...

24 hours in A&E on now

My dad cut his index finger off on a table saw back in the 50s. He picked it up out of the sawdust, put it in a bag of ice, wrapped his bleeding hand in a pillow case, and drove himself to hospital. The surgeon took the severed digit from him and dropped it in the bin, then, under local...

First Work Bench and last item made

That's pretty much the definition of a bench.........so yep, that's a proper woodworking bench. You need a vice though. That looks like it's in the corner of your lounge. Either that, or you've got the smartest workshop in history.

How to change career to woodworking

I'm feeling a little woozy at this. I need to go and lie down in a dark room for a while, and hope the sweats stop quickly. :)

    Security cameras

I spent quite a time designing an anti-poaching balloon-based drone system for large area surveillance and poacher deterrent, and one of the things that we were going to do was have a very loud loudspeaker attached to the drone, and have the controller able to shout directly at the potential...

Chipped edges on new planes and do new planes need sharpening before use?

You do state things as fact rather readily:

Chipped edges on new planes and do new planes need sharpening before use?

Yep. Mine don't have a secondary bevel, and are all sharpened to 30 degrees.

Chipped edges on new planes and do new planes need sharpening before use?

Not so. Any decent plane iron will survive an impact with knots at full power, possibly unscathed. Do it too often and you might need to re-hone, but it really shouldn't do any damage.

    Heard

Oh dear, oh dear..... :) Contrary to popular opinion, the rain in Spain in fact falls almost exclusively on the hills, and the plains are actually very arid.

    Capping joint

So this is a board which sits above the tiles? If so, I've never seen one overhang on the outside, out over the barge board. Clearly the joint has to be the top one overlapping the lower one, as you've drawn it, so that water running down the capping piece doesn't track its way into the joint...
