    Switch on my pillar drill

Sounds like a new switch to me. I replaced the switch on mine recently with an NVR for a bit of extra safety. From memory it cost about £20 from ebay.

    Lubricating Plunge Router posts?

+1 for Finish Line Dry. Great stuff for anywhere you don't want sawdust to stick to.

MDF router table top, what to finish with?

I made my first router table from a piece of kitchen worktop and it worked OK but I found that the chipboard swelled a bit where it had been cut out for the router insert. I should probably have sealed it up silicone or something but I didn't and I ended up with a slightly wobbly surface. You...

    Some advice please if possible

Thoughtfulness and consideration are the order of the day (usually). When we lived in a semi-detached house I became aware that my woodworking activities were potentially going to cause tension between us and our neighbours. I simply talked to our neighbours and asked what times of day they were...

    Kity 619 Riving Knife

Thanks for the info Steve. I have a couple of old blades lying around so I may well give that a try. I had considered making one from some 3mm aluminium plate that I have but I'm not sure if it's up to the job. That would be great - many thanks.

    Kity 619 Riving Knife

I have just bought a Kity 619. It's over ten years old so it's one of the original French made ones (if that makes any difference!?) but it's missing it's riving knife. I called NMA who were incredibly knowledgable and helpful however they wanted almost £60 for a replacement riving knife. I'm...

    kity 618

I just bought a 619 and I am thoroughly hacked-off that Kit didn't use standard sized slots! The slots on mine measure 15mm wide with the 'T' part widening to 18.6mm and the overall depth is 6mm.

Best not to buy expensive saw while learning to sharpen?

Now that sounds like a good idea. I can bang out a load of much needed (by SWMBO) storage boxes before I embark on MY much needed tool chest. :D

Best not to buy expensive saw while learning to sharpen?

I bought the Veritas dovetail saw and am really very happy with it, it's a lovely saw to use and is very well balanced. I've been cutting my first hand-cut dovetails in oak and elm with it this week and I can almost cut right to the line with it. By the time I have finished the 9th drawer I...

Axminster- customer service (positive) rant !!!

I have nothing but praise for Axminster. A couple of items I have bought have needed to be returned because of manufacturing faults. Axminster paid for the return postage and sent out a replacement very promptly. One item was a LN carcass saw which had a very slight bend along the length of the...

    Forum Users Routers

Makita 1/2'' beasty in the table and a little Bosch POF-500 for precision hand-held work. The Bosch is a pain to set up but it's so light and controllable I just find it easy to use. The Makita is an animal hand-held so it stays in the table most of the time.

    Forum Users Router Tables

Home made. M&T'd frame from 4x2 softwood - very rigid - then two 18mm MDF sheets glued and screwed together to make a chunky top. 8mm Perspex insert but looking to upgrade that to either a home-made aluminium one or a commercial phenolic one. My Makita router is a fixed speed so I bought a...

Portable or bench top planer thicknesser advice needed.

A few years ago I had a similar problem. I had a DeWalt planer thicknesser (which was excellent btw!) in my single garage. I ended up getting a mobile base so that I could move it around easily and pull it away from the wall when I needed to use it. I had a similar stand for my bandsaw as well...

    Planer to jointer

This isn't the one I saw originally but here's one I just found on YouTube that demonstrates the principle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lheWuf1Bzk Hope it helps, PJ

    Planer to jointer

Do you have a router table with a fence? I remember seeing someone use a router table as a jointer once and thought how simple that idea was - just a jointer on it's side. From memory the fence was a one piece tye so to compensate for the wood that had been removed by the bit a thin shim of...

    UJK Precision Mitre Gauge

I'm hoping for 'well made' :D Thanks for your responses. It does seem like a bit of a compromise to make my own runner but I suppose a carefully made one should perform well enough and it's the old beggers/choosers thing. I'm not much of a metal worker but it shouldn't be too hard to knock...

    UJK Precision Mitre Gauge

Hi All, I am just about take delivery of my first real table saw (a Kity 619) and I have been looking at alternative mitre gauges for it. Firstly, does anyone know if it has a standard slot or is it some obscure proprietary size? Secondly I have just spotted the UJK Precision Mitre Gauge on...
