    First time edge glueing boards

Hi chaps, I have yet more questions on my walnut table. I have finally purchased some clamps (bessey parrallel 4 for £100) and table legs so am now very much ready to glue and get going! Question numero 1, and the big one. One of my boards remains bowed by 4mm in the centre (see photo 1) can I...

Not quite sure where to start in replying. As always an insane response! So thankyou! I have read an digested all. i will purchase a cheaper western tenon for now, the victor marking gauge, the Stanley knife recommended by Derek, Now with chisels. I presume “ones with a good bevel” means...

    Help identifying timber board

Thanks Phill, good to have a name for it. I’ll test a sample stain and see how it comes out. I’m going to make a floating desk out of it and will likely just glue the boards together so could split later. thanks again both of you

    Help identifying timber board

additional photos below. Not finished sanding yet and there is still residue but tried to choose two well sanded areas. There isn’t quite the black grain on my boards as seen on yours

    Help identifying timber board

There isn’t a single knot on the board which makes me doubt. Amd FYI a couple of reclamation lads put them to one side having identified them as valuable timber - just not enough of it for them to bother taking it.

    Help identifying timber board

Hi guys, I picked up three lengths of this timber from a 1950s school we demolished. Finally got around to sanding it down and wondering which species it is and recommendations for an appropriate dark stain finish? Your help as ever is hugely appreciated. Phil

    Walnut UV/ageing protection

Hi all, I recently posted a thread about finishes to retain the mat appearance of black walnut with a waterproof finish. It was here I learned walnut oranges as it ages in UV light and therefore my greater wish is to retain its natural colour as long as possible!! Can anyone please recommend...

Black Walnut finish to retain Mat appearance

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I will go with the osmo water repellant mix Sploo recommended for the dining table. However I recently wasted some money on some walnut side tables from John Lewis and want to protect them from UV as in their position they will sit in the sun all day. Any...

    Furniture grade plywood

Annoying times to start woodworking. However I have contacted them, so heres hopes for a reasonable price. Have you used melamine for your cupboard here? I am impressed with the finish you have achieved.

    Furniture grade plywood

I've actually moved the boiler into the loft so its currently void of any additional heat/moisture and is an empty cupboard. Still a valid option however, and possibly much cheaper..

    Furniture grade plywood

Hi all, 1. Looking to build simple shelving within my airing cupboard and built in wardrobe out of plyboard. My research has turned up Birch plywood BB/BB is the best looking stuff for the job but ever so expensive at £100+ per sheet. I've spoken to a local yard who have similar but I...

Black Walnut finish to retain Mat appearance

Thats what Im talking about. How does it handle water rings and UV protection seems to be a big requirement with BAW? I am still very tempted by this combo, being both specific liquid protection products. What could I couple with these for added UV protection? Has anyone a sample with these by...

Black Walnut finish to retain Mat appearance

It seemed an illogical comment as I wrote it. My house is south east facing so should get minimal sun on the tabletop.

Router table - Mdf and Ply - Laminate both sides?

Put your Workbench with collapsible wheels is my plan I will have to look into the incra positioner and plate - it would certainly make for a more professional set-up. I purchased a bargain 2015 Makita 1/2" plunge router which I had penned for this role.

Black Walnut finish to retain Mat appearance

Its certainly positive to hear that a thicker, solid wood is more resistant to fading. Could it be due to the thin veneer? Or is it simply the alternate finish you mentioned earlier.
