    Accurater drilling

From Axminster: "Once a rod is aligned with a mark..." But how do you know the mark is accurately placed? I've used a blade and a ruler and great care, but it always goes slightly wrong somehow. And forget pencil and ruler as well! It seems there's no substitute for a jig.

    Accurater drilling

Hi - I have a lot of trouble trying to drill accurately spaced holes, and have eventually hit on this method. Those folks who do any electronics will be aware of "stripboard", previously known as Veroboard, which has a 0.1" grid of 1mm holes with copper strips joining them. It's also available...

    Acrylic - steel wool?

Thanks all! That's basically everything I need to know.... I'm equally appreciative and impressed as always! Cheers,

    Allan Calder RIP

Hi all - sadly, Allan Calder sandpaper supplies appears to have gone west. Can anyone suggest another source of reliable quality? Thanks,

    Acrylic - steel wool?

Usually when polishing acrylic I sand from grit 400 to 12000, then finish with cheap metal polish, but for a curved surface.... I was wondering about using steel wool. Is there any equivalence between grades of sandpaper and coarse, medium, fine, extra-fine, extra-extra-fine, etc, steel wool...

    Mini table saw advice?

Hi - That looks good, but unfortunately it's seriously too big for the little space I have. I'm imagining something about the size of a large biscuit tin, or two shoe boxes side by side (to use dometric units :) , that I can put in a cupboard when I'm not using it.

    Mini table saw advice?

Hi - is that the TC-CS 89? It looks v similar to the Ruyika one that I already have (above). I took it apart the other day - it seems impressively solid and well-made. Impossible for left-handers though. Unfortunately, as usual the outer case is part of the structure, so it wouldn't be easy to...

    Mini table saw advice?

A 30x30cm bed, maybe with an optional extension, would be ok for most of what I make - on the scale of side tables, not garden benches or dolls' houses! In any case, I don't have room for a bigger one, even if I needed it. I have the Record BS250 bandsaw, which is good with a new, straight...

    Mini table saw advice?

Yes, thank-you. It's way over my budget though. It kind of confirms my impression of Proxxon stuff as overpriced but good. I know you tend to get what you pay for, but should you really have to pay 3 times the price of an "ordinary" one, just to avoid eg a wobbling guide? I can't, anyway. If...

    Mini table saw advice?

Hello. Does anyone know of a "mini" (say 30cm-ish bed size) table saw that's not rubbish? I've browsed on Amazon (for the reviews) and none of them look very good. I wouldn't object to one that's fairly easily improved to a decent quality - for instance, if the guide has too much play, etc etc...

    Long spiral like Yankee?

@Sachakins - thats a good idea! It might just work, even tho the "thread" tpi looks about double that of a Yankee shaft (which is what I have in my mind's eye). I thought it would be a standard thing, which I only needed the name of! Silly. @brocher - I'm looking for something with a thread of...

    Long spiral like Yankee?

Thank-you! But to get a goodly amount of the force on the nut/pusher translated into rotation of the (¼") rod, I'd like the helical groove to be about 1 turn per inch, or less. (Is there a name for such a grooved rod, and its nut/pusher?)

    Long spiral like Yankee?

From what I can see, these are all for making the nut move by turning the rod. I want the opposite. A looooong helical thread in the rod, so that the nut, when pushed, turns the rod. As in a Yankee?

    Long spiral like Yankee?

Ok I will, thanks. Not the name I would have thought of myself.

Lego & Myford - who knew?

One wonders why steel gears are so expensive. They must be made by the billion.

    Long spiral like Yankee?

Hi all. Is there a name for a long spiral driven "thread", like that on a Yankee screwdriver? And any idea where they might be available, along with the associated "nut"/pusher? Preferably not cannibalising a Yankee! For my purpose it won't need to go backwards, so a single channel not a...

    Inside-out countersink bit?

That's great - I'm very tempted! I'd almost never need it, but when I did... And a decent price. Monument Internal/External Deburrer - up to 38mm - MON365F

    Inside-out countersink bit?

Which should work just as well for deburring a rod I presume..

    Acrylic: End-of-hole polishing?

Ok, thanks all, for the suggestions. I'm not familiar with flame polish, whether it's a stuff or a technique. I can look it up though. Thanks again.
