    Wadkin BGS10 restoration and modifications

The BGS(10) was introduced in 1959, before the BGS12, that is why the leaflet and nameplate reference is just "BGS". It was made up until at least 1969 when it still appears in the Parrys catalogue but was discontinued sometime between 1970 and 1975. I've managed to find references to 10...

    Wadkin BGS10 restoration and modifications

I also managed to find an original 1959 BGS sales leaflet. Seems to be too big to upload here (36MB)? Anyway, I uploaded it to the OWWM archive if anyone is interested http://www.vintagemachinery.org/pubs/de ... x?id=23423 I know there are other copies but this has no defacing watermarks :)

    Wadkin BGS10 restoration and modifications

As if I don't have enough projects on the go, I've just bought a BGS 10 from 1960.

Does anyone know when Wadkin stopped production of the BGS 10?

Startrite bandsaw - very old - advice needed.

Hi Samej, You're lucky to get it. It's one of the nicest small bandsaws and yours looks in good condition too. The knurled knob at the back controls the small amount of sideways adjustment to the position of the roller. I posted some sales literature on the other thread: post1224731.html#p1224731

    Lifting castors

This was what I came up with mobile-workbenches-t116799.html

Does anyone recognise this type of bandsaw?

I think that's probably the case here. The rise and fall handwheel is on the base for the one in the Startrite catalogue. That seems quite a significant design difference....

Running 12" BAO/S Planer Thicknesser with inverter drives

Hi Josh, My BAO/S is still in pieces... I bought a new 240V 3ph motor for the cutterblock to boost the power a bit. Still planning on using the original feed motor though. Ongoing thread on my BAO/S here: wadkin-12-bao-s-planer-thicknesser-project-t114281.html

    Mobile workbenches

Difficult to answer because the mechanical advantage varies with the position of the lever... For 3mm of movement to raise a bench I think it would be ok. Any more than that and the advantage drops off steeply....

    Mobile workbenches

    Mobile workbenches

Ok, here's a spec. for a simplified version: TR24x5 leadscrews and nuts left-hand and right-hand pairs (available from ACCU). Drill and tap the end of the leadscrews for M10 to fix the castors on. Use an 8mm slot drill to drill a flat on the side of the leadscrews (above the castor fixing...

    Mobile workbenches

I turned down the leadscrew in two steps, 15m dia for the shrink fit collar and <10mm for M10 male thread (die cut). I see that you can get the same castors with a 12mm hole now. That would be preferable.

    Mobile workbenches

A simplified version would be to just drill a hole through the leadscrew for the jacking lever (omitting the collar). Then drill and tap a hole in the end of the leadscrew for the castor fixing. That would all be do-able on a drill press.... Minor diameter of T20 is 15mm. The small castors I...

    Leadscrews and nuts: https://www.accu.co.uk/en/517-precision ... s-and-nuts I used TR20 4mm lead, left-hand and right-hand pairs. I would have used 8mm double start if I could have found left-hand 8mm leadnuts... Castors: https://www.castors-online.co.uk/acatal ... stors.html
