Wadkin BGS10…The rarest table saw Wadkin made. Full Restoration

Indeed! And not that much cheaper than the BGS12 when it came out (1962?) I see that the price of the BGS12 went up by much more than inflation between 1964 and 1971 though.... :) 1964 prices Wadkin 10" AGS (3ph.) £115.00 Wadkin 12" AGS (3ph.) £164.00 Wadkin 10" BGS (3ph.) £214.00 Wadkin 12" BGS...

Wadkin BGS10…The rarest table saw Wadkin made. Full Restoration

I haven't progressed much beyond the end of those two threads yet....... You've inspired me to get on with it again, though :-) Should I post my progress here or would you prefer I start my own thread? My 3D model of the BGS is slowly getting there, too.

Wadkin BGS10…The rarest table saw Wadkin made. Full Restoration

Hi Deema, These are the comparative prices from the 1964 price list Wadkin BGS 10 restoration and modifications - Canadian Woodworking and Home Improvement Forum In the 1971 price list the BGS10 is listed as "Not Available". I think the BGS 10 became quickly out-dated...

    Another Wadkin AGS10" thread

Mine measures 39.9mm. On another machine I worked on the bore of the fence casting was a bit worn. For a new fence bar, I bought 40mm 'precision' thick walled tubing for it which measured 40.05mm. Too thick. I ground out the bore in the fence casting for a nice fit.

Bandsaw blades alternative to Tuffsaw(Marvelous blades)

As far as I know, the only downside is that they won't last quite as long between sharpening. So, you have to bear that in mind when comparing the prices. I don't have any experience of using either yet.

    Wadkin AGS 10 restoration

As far as there is any backlash, if you mean lost motion, this should be taken care of by the rise and fall quadrant/motor assembly falling under its own weight.

    Wadkin AGS 10 restoration

Michal, It is the original part you have on your machine. It's a squalid bit of re-engineering that Wadkin-Bursgreen did c.1975. As the locking nut on the single point bearing grub screw has itself been cut back, then the original fit must have been tight too... The attached photo is of my part...

    Fair price

Nothing worse than a Wadkin Bursgreen sprayed hammer finish from the late 70s though :)
  13. M

    Fair price

It seems to be the original Green Hammerite paint finish. It's usually quite easy to clean paint splashes from Hammerite and conversely quite difficult to overpaint it satisfactorily!

    Fair price

Hi Doug, Yes, that's the one.

    Fair price

£1250 for the AGS is quite high but not completely out of order, providing it has both table extensions and the main fence is in good condition etc. From the details I can see, it was made between 1963 and 1968. You could check the machine no. for the exact date. This earlier one (pic below)...

I find myself browsing band saws again... Help me compile a shortlist?

The Wadkin MZF may look as if it's cast but in fact it's fabricated from thick steel plate.

List of British manufacturers of woodworking machines

Interesting. Thanks. Hadn't come across them before. Maybe a bit too general purpose for a woodworking machine list though?

Yes, they made them. Also sandstone grinding machines. Thanks.

Ref: JCB Timeline Traces 75 Year History Yes, I think it's most likely that they were just an early production of the firm. Nothing to do with branding exercises.
