So you think you might get a wood boiler?

We aim to use mainly logs augmented by coppiced timber from our own woodland. The logs are either from arboricultural work, managed forest or wind blown. I have 15 cages from the frames of old IBC containers that I fill up as opportunities arise. So the timber is sustainable and the boiler is of...

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

I bought a combined log/pellet boiler a few months ago. I'm still in the process of installing it however its linked to 2000 litre heat store, auto ignites logs and pellets and auto swaps between logs an pellets. The idea is you stuff it full of logs, which should be enough for a days heating...

KIt Car Dashboard - Burr Walnut Veneer Project

:) I was about 21 and it was my first house, a bit of a wreck and I found out that a) bringing back girls to a house with prehistoric bogs was not condusive to furthering relationships, and b) girls tend to think your a bit of a wolly with a sports car.. seling it was a win/win :) I did enjoy...

KIt Car Dashboard - Burr Walnut Veneer Project

I did the dash of my 1969 TVR Vixen with burr Walnut a good few years ago. It all went well initially, I used animal glue. It all went pete tong when I finished it. I used several coats of sanding sealer followed by polyurethane varnish. It looked fantastic to begin with, and being a bit of a...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

I have days when I have that problem, everything I touch turns to poo.

What did you do in your workshop today ?

I was sick of falling over mainly steel stock on the floor of the workshop so made a stand, but this is also going to take all my long wood stock too so just qualifies for this thread. The stand consists of 3 sets of uprights 1.25m apart then with a 650mm overhang at each end so ending up at...

    Sash Clamps

Bessey pipe clamps are on their way so bought some 3/4 BSP steam pipe on line. It's 6 quid a metre including delivery, I can probably find it cheaper but working away at the moment so limited opportunity to delve, even so, at £28 for a hopefully very strong metre clamp, and only 6 quid more for...

    Jukebox WIP

I got it finished this weekend. The kids helped me sand it down and wax it so I had to install it when the kids were going to be about. So I installed it Saturday morning. I made a MDF shelf to fit underneath the worktop that carries the PSU, USB charger and the speakers. The wife normally goes...

    Sash Clamps

I should be able to get the thicker stuff a bit cheaper via my mates plumbing account or go down to the local scrappy if the conduit doesn't fit, I hope! EDIT - I got galvanised malleable iron pipe from here, delivered quite cheaply in 3.25m lengths with a thread at both ends and a connector. I...

    Sash Clamps

I've just ordered some Bessey pipe 3/4" BSP clamps (just over 1" pipe OD) from Amazon, £22 each including delivery. I shall let you know if they are any good when they arrive.

Split top Roubo bench on a budget

Well its been 2 years so the douglas fir should be about ready for the bench now, I can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel in terms of DIY jobs, I have a small window of opportunity before I start the extension on the youngest daughter's bedroom when the weather improves. I still have...

Dewalt router guide rail adapter and mafell/bosch rails?

I should probably put this in a new thread however its related. I'm not the proud owner of a set of mafell/bosch rails but I have dewalt 625E and Trend T5 routers. So I have bought the Bosch router guide rail base. This is pre-drilled with holes to fit most of their routers. So I have had a...

Jigsaw Blades for cutting Straight 90degree Lines?

I've had the same problem in the past, the only way I know to solve it is the mafell P1CC jigsaw. Check out the youtube videos. Their secret sauce is no guide roller behind the blade plus a laminated blade design. If your cutting a straight line then a jigsaw is probably not the best tool...

    Microfinishing / Lapping Film

I knew there was another reason for the lid :) Maybe I'll make it pyramid shape so I can't stack rubbish on it :)

    Microfinishing / Lapping Film

I bought the set but will probably end up doing something like Custard does and use a couple of grades. I use a glass plate, part of the kit. I need to make a wooden cover for it so I can use the top of the sharpening station to hold mountains of random junk like all the other horizontal surface...

Soldering iron/soldering station... for less than £100

+1 for the Hakko, bought one last year, far better than any others I have tried and I've tried a lot.

    Microfinishing / Lapping Film

Here's my sharpening station complete with the film from workshop heaven. I use it for metal and wouldworkig tools, I have plane irons, richard kell honing guide, tormek jigs and other jigs in the drawers. I haven't got into a routine system yet for my woodworking tools yet as I've been mainly...
