What did you do in your workshop today ?

I bought a remote controlled power socket switch for my numatic NVD750 extractor, £14 for two. The extractor is rated at 2400W (2 x 1200W motors) and the socket at 2900W, ratings vary so worth checking. I can be at one end of the workshop and the extractor is at the other, some 20 metres away...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

Two years after I made it, I have eventually fitted the Mr Sawdust bench top to my RAS. I just need to make the back board and fence so ordering four horizontal toggle clamps that screw to the back board and hold the fence in position. The Mr Sawdust table is two pieces of 3/4" MDF or Ply glued...

    Startrite 351E bandsaw motor swap

I will be taking the top door off next time Paul, I have enough craters in my head!, Here's the motor swap, pretty simple, not much too it, only a couple of points where a hand from somebody else make it easier, there was a guy repairing a dry stone wall that I managed to coerce with a mug of...

    Startrite 351E bandsaw motor swap

Thanks Paul As I said, bashing my bonce on the upper wheel door had no bearing on my comments on the guides at all!

Router table v spindle moulder v overhead router

I have a trend router table, and an Elektra Beckum TF100 spindle moulder, which needs the motor rewinding. I'm hoping to get rid of one of them and was weighing up the pro's and con's when I looked on eBay for wadkin and noticed their overhead routers. Not having used one before I have no idea...

    Startrite 351E bandsaw motor swap

The new motor is fine and I had changed the run/start capacitors on the old motor before it let out its smoke so the old motor was defo knackered. Whether the old motor's life ( it was 17 YO) was shortened by bad guide block alignment is possible, I haven't always been as patient with fiddly...

    Startrite 351E bandsaw motor swap

After a good nights kip and without having a pressing deadline or a throbbing bonce bump, I attacked the guides again this morning, still a PITA but they are nicely aligned now and have a 80 gm paper gap between blade and guide. Yesterday I did manage to align the blade in the centre of the...

    Startrite 351E bandsaw motor swap

I've looked at a few old posts, I think the axminster guides are the cheapest however I don't want to swap one fiddly design for another so I shall persevere for now, muttering under my breath until I get chance to look at some in the flesh. I'm tempted to make my own, I've got the means to do...

    Startrite 351E bandsaw motor swap

I eventually got around to fitting the new motor today, many thanks Paul, works a dream :) It took a while as I had to clear a route through the workshop to it so welded up a stock stand first which takes all my long wood and metal stock which was on the floor in front of my woodworking...

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

I've got 3 dowlings, none with back boiler though. I have a sumo in the living room, a hybrid in the kitchen and a firebug in the wife's workshop. Only used for secondary heating and power-cuts now but great bits of kit. I agree that placing the wood boiler in the middle of the house would be...

    Sash Clamps

The bessey 0.75 inch pipe clamps arrived, there's a few pics below but this video probably says it all. They look good for the price, they took a couple of weeks for shipping. I like the way the clamp sits on legs, the throat is a bit shallow, but if you put clamps on opposite sides of deep...

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

That is a bit a beast Roger. With the reduction of RHI and the slowing of oil prices increases, a lot of renewable heat companies have gone to the wall. So you can get bargain equipment but naff all support. The guy I bought mine from used to have 20 employees, now he is virtually a one man band.

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

Totally agree with the need for proper tools. I do have a large hydraulic splitter but my tractor to drive is in bits so I use my neighbours tractor for now. It's ok for the odd tree but you wouldn't want to do much more with it too slow. Here's the start of this years logs that I started...

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

Wood pellet boilers don't cost anywhere near 30k even inc fitting. As they modulate relatively quickly compared to a pile of logs then you don't need a huge heat store. My all singing dancing auto log and pellet boiler including heat store, expansion tank and fitting is much less than 30k. With...

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

Not in my case. I have a 2000 litre heat store and if I fill the boiler with logs it auto ignites them and burns the lot in one go heating up the heat store. The heat is slowly released in the house via a heat exchanger and underfloor heating. One load shoukd do a day, however if not, it will...

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

I was considering buying wood in the round and hiring a wood processor for a couple days and split the cost with few neighbours. I must admit I have only looked at pre-split log costs at the moment. The RHI scheme now insists on traceable renewable wood since many abused the scheme by burning...

So you think you might get a wood boiler?

Bought logs can't compete with natural gas on price, but it can with LPG. If you can scavange some free logs from around and about then even better. We have yet to do a full year yet however I reckon I will need about 7 to 10 tonnes of logs just for the CH& HW.
