    Happy to be home

I can concur with that, in the stroke unit my father was in there were directly managed senior nurses, then below them not quite so senior nurses contracted out to one company, then nurses that did the day to day bed management/feeding who were sub contracted through two agencies. Each layer is...

    Happy to be home

Well I have saved them some cash, looks like I have a growth on my pituitary gland and it's putting pressure on my optic nerves and causing sight issues. MRI scan booked Thursday. Gone through the work's insurance, my mum and dad can't afford that luxury. My pa is recovering from two strokes in...

    Happy to be home

why would they? Every countries health service has evolved differently and to mimic it they would have to chop and change every time our government changed and the next set of loony policies were introduced. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the health service except for unwarranted...

    Happy to be home

The best reform the NHS could get would be to get rid of unnecessary government intervention especially when they want to mimic the US system which is seriously broken. I run a team including several in the US, I once ran a team of 600 of which 400 were in the US and I cannot remember one person...

    Large router table WIP

Thanks for the encouragement :) I haven't got around to finish off the bookcase yet as the sun keeps shining so loads of outside jobs to do plus I ran out of beer so just brewed about 130 bottles of hoppy blonde beer :)

Low/no cost hand tools acquired today

I have been looking for a 3/4" gouge for carving for a while, usually by Addis, Sorby etc. Although a few are cheaper, they seem to be around the £20+ mark on eBay. Well I was passing our local market today and Sunday is a flea market, it is usually full of tat but today I spotted these tucked...

Just bought a Viceroy TDS6 short bed

Sorry I can't help on the lead screw, I haven't had to touch mine - yet. Back to the Viceroy. I had a quick look at converting the existing switch panel to an NVR, the idea is you use the existing buttons to actuate a modern NVR hidden behind it, Here's a pick showing a couple of bits of dowel...

This is all Random Orbital Bob's fault...

I asked the missus about ducks and she denied telling me that, evidently I must have had my usual selective hearing turned on. Evidently although Khaki Campbells are superb slug eaters, they also eat your veg as well. Other ducks are better suited and she wants some Indian runners, she reckons...

This is all Random Orbital Bob's fault...

Interesting, I believe the wife got it from another small holder, I shall as. A neighbour has a mixture of various ducks, I did suggest we bring them around for a day and try them out.

This is all Random Orbital Bob's fault...

Interesting :) When we had wooden raised beds I had copper then galvanised wire around it so that when a slug crawled up it the slime would carry a current between dissimilar metals, seemed to work. Trouble is with permaculture, raised beds are just mounds of mulch so no vertical surface to fix...

This is all Random Orbital Bob's fault...

The missus is our gardener, she has started practicing permaculture, which I guess is roughly sustainable organic mainly no dig gardening, loads of mulching. Her main problem is slugs, it is very wet up in t'Pennines and they thrive. We've tried almost everything with varying degrees of success...

    shop vac

I like it all Bob, but I like both the sound deadening box and the traffic cone cyclone the best, I may be copying them :)

Just bought a Viceroy TDS6 short bed

Here's the wiring diagram for the Denford Viceroy TD6 a higher resolution PDF is available on the Denford forum, it is bundled in a PDF of the wiring of many Denford machines so took a while to dig out. All looks self explanatory, it can work single or three phase and apart from the 96*...

Just bought a Viceroy TDS6 short bed

I had a quick look at the switch, it is single phase and think I can see why they wired it direct. This is the switch This is the back, the red wire should be top right, with this set up as wired you can turn the lathe on, but not off. I had a quick check with the meter and it seems to work...

Just bought a Viceroy TDS6 short bed

I've picked up the lathe and given it a quick rub down and a quick test. There is a large aluminium faceplate and smaller cast "faceplate" for the outboard LH thread but nothing for the inboard -yet :) The single phase motor works fine and even with link belts it sounds quiet enough, The motor...

    Large router table WIP

I think as long as the "secret" drawer is not revealed to her younger sister she will be OK with me telling everybody else :)

    Large router table WIP

Cheers Bob :) First biggish project I have started and finished in a reasonable time frame for a while and really enjoyed doing it, I'm going to try and do that going forward rather than have 4 half finished projects to sort out, tractor excepted, that will have to wait until after the kitchen...

    Large router table WIP

I finished the table this morning, I only needed to add the doors for the fence storage and router cupboard. I will be adding some drawer organisers but these are small tea break jobs so I consider this router table launched and all who route with her etc. Cheers Andy

    Tauco pillar drill

Four years on maybe they were cheaper :) I have a bench model Tauco in bits under the bench waiting for restoration that my father gave me. Not much wrong with it apart from it's covered in hammerite. I don't really need another pillar drill but it has sentimental value and I enjoy renovating...

Cost to convert to 3 phase

its a pity your so far away Bob, you could have brought your spindle moulder around and tried it on my 10hp inverter to see how you like it before buying, however even if your close I guess they are not that portable :) Direct Drives are a small family company and I believe they used to sell...
