Thanks for that Ola :)
I can't find a UK stockist of that extrusion, the cheapest I can find it is imported from the UK from the US using Ebays international shipping programme at £72 which is a bit much to gain and extra 90mm, but worth knowing if I find a use that warrants the expense...
Hi Mike
I did look at that one, but it was on back order, plus the fence only has one t track and I wanted more support for the aluminium plate for resawing vertically. The axminste deluxe resaw fence looks good and a possible candidate for replacing the tall fence with a bit of valutrack for...
I have had an older Startrite 351E bandsaw from new, about 15 years I think, it works well but the fence is a bit agricultural. The fence works well enough at what it does, but it lacks finesse, it is not easy to fit tall fences for resawing, or stops etc. All can be done, but having no T-slots...
There's one one on the bay now, item 401324057401, ex-demo, looks like it has a knob missing, possibly other bits and bobs, probably cutters, but if it will do all those joints without having to buy different templates then it sounds good.
I have a Trend jig that I bought before we had kids and never got around to use it once they arrived, it was still unpackaged until recently, it is still unused. It's a DJ300, I was thinking of selling it when I got around to it, not sure if it does all the joints you want without accessories...
The motor saga has nearly ended. I believe I have found out why the Tom Senior mill was struggling, for some reason I have used a 1hp VFD with a 1hp motor, you should look at the current required not the hp, usually I use the 2 x rule of thumb, I did with the Chipmaster and it went like a bomb...
Search for sewing machine LED on ebay, you should get loads of results fore a magnetic base and flexible head and cost less than 4 quid each, I bought a bunch and put them on all my machines. They are quite small but give out a reasonable light, only drawback is they come with a 2 pin plug but...
I also have a much smaller numatic WV470 wet and dry that I use when working out of the workshop, works a treat and as Mike says. takes HEPA bags so pretty efficient at filtering fine particles.
I have the Numatic NVD750, it is an excellent vacuum. They do a single motor version NV750 which is cheaper, both can take HEPA filters. Both now come on a trolley, at least they do from Axminster. More expensive than a Trend but less than a Festool.
I use it to power a workshop extraction...
Thanks Guys
I've fitted VFDs to a Colchester Chipmaster lathe and a Tom Senior M1 mill, the lathe was a Mitsubishi, the Tom Senior was an Allen-Bradley. I sold the Chippie with the VFD but I still have the mill. The mill currently has a 1hp 3 phase motor on it and it could really do with 1.5hp...
I'm now struggling to get a 71 frame 3/4hp single phase 4 pole motor.
Here's a quote from lathes.co.uk
"Viceroy wood lathes were especially popular with educational establishments who, as a further safety precaution, often specified a motor less powerful than the 0.75 h.p. 3-phase unit...
Good point CHJ.
I can use the contactor on the input, even easier to wire up but with a VFD the contactor is kind of superfluous unless I use it for the emergency stop etc.
As I only want the lathe to knock up the odd bit of turnery, I'm erring towards just sticking in a 3/4hp single phase...
I spent most of the day clearing up after storm Brian, no major damage, just loads of gravel washed into all the drains. However I did get an hour later on.
Firstly, I am going to struggle getting a motor greater than 3/4hp into the lathe without modifications. I have 270mm from pulley to the...
The vice cleaned up well and she gave it a coat of BLO to seal it
I then gave her an old stanley pump action screwdriver, a small cordless driver and a standard screwdriver and my old cordless drill to play with on a pile of scrap wood and my tin of assorted fixings that never get sorted...
Just been looking at motor sizes, 4 pole 1450 rpm 2hp 3 phase motors tend to be a 90 frame size which would be a squeeze in the lathe, probably meaning a cut out in the side for the motor fan. 80 frame size look to fit nicely without which is what the 1hp single phase motor I was looking at is...
