    .......

How about something like this There are loads of aid for people with RSI etc. In this case I just searched for lid pliers You could even make one, small plank with a hole same size as chuck OD then cut a slot in it so when you grip the handle it clamps the chuck.

    Chop saw recommendation?

I only just got chance to square the saw up today, took about half an hour and most of that was finding a suitable bit of ply as a test piece. Now spot on.

Mafell MT55 in the hands of a plunge saw newbie

Not a bad idea, I had thought of using it as a drilling template, but not a router template for some reason, too much Christmas spirit maybe :)

Very nice :) I've vowed not to buy more tools for a while after buying the Mafell plunge saw and a Bosch mitre saw. However looking at the cost of an 8 x 4 sheet of MR MDF, max about 35 quid if its Medite, I can get the builders merchant to deliver for nothing versus the price of an 8 x 4 CNC...

Here's the new acquisition in place and the first cut (and this isn't the deepest :) ) I shall true it up then give it a real test tomorrow. Cheers Andy

I reckon that there will be a suitable IT acronym that should obscure it a little, MITRE stands for Missile Test and Readiness Equipment, I'm sure there are others :)

Thanks for all the tips guys, rubber strip now cut nicely on all three rails. I haven't had time to give the saw a good work out yet, or the holey table and dogs, that may be a tomorrow job along with sorting out an extractor hose to the henry vacuum. I would like a Festool extractor or similar...

    Chop saw recommendation?

It arrived in one piece with no obvious signs of being dropped which was a good start. Assembly of the stand took about an hour with a break for a brew, very well made. A neighbour gave me hand mounting the saw on the stand, probably doable with one but why make it hard. I made it very clear to...

    Chop saw recommendation?

It replaces the clamp that comes with the saw and has quick release which the stock one doesn't have. I find a clamp handy on a mitre saw, especially on longer stock. On my present saw I have it attached to the lid of a site box so I can use my boot to steady stock, on the new saw the table is...

Looking at a Festool video, they say max speed and max plunge depth to cut the splinter guard. I shall have a play in the morning.

    Kitchen cabinet standards?

Thanks **** I hadn't heard of Hettich until you mentioned them, their hidden drawer runners sounds look good, will go well with wooden drawers and a few dovetails :) Worthy of a much closer look. Cheers Andy

Thanks MP, I didn't know that Hafele bought stuff in, very good to know, I shall bear that in mind when getting stuff, I think they have a showroom near me somewhere so may go and have a butchers :) Cheers Andy

    Kitchen cabinet standards?

Thanks Dzj, that book looks interesting :) I shall be buying at least a sample of all the hardware first. So far I only have one built in appliance as the missus wants the fridge and freezer in the utility room. As the dishwasher is quite new I'm hoping to reuse it so will have that to study...

Thanks guys, Any tips on cutting the plastic strip the first time around? I'm guessing you start at one end, plunge about 10mm gently and go the full length of the rail. I have 3 rails, 2 x 1.6 and a 0.8m, I bought them a while ago to use with my Mafell P1CC Jigsaw, this uses the other side of...

Mafell MT55 in the hands of a plunge saw newbie

I've had this a couple of days now but have only just got around to play with it. I'm new to plunge saws and holey tables and dogs so be gentle with me :) So far I have the holey board on a pair of tressles, a couple of super duper parf dogs, some dogs that came free with the board, a couple of...

I'm looking forward to tomorrow morning now, just clearing a space in the workshop for it. I've also ordered the quick release clamp for it, £26 from Amazon US, at the price of the saw it should be included.

Thanks AJB, very promising, lets hope it gets here without being dropped in transit!

    Chop saw recommendation?

Well, I can't drive at the moment, doctors orders, so I'm relying on mates for lifts and I haven't had a chance to get over the Axminster in Warrington to check out the big Bosch. I sold the Toylander I made for the kids last week for a reasonable amount so I bit the bullet and pressed the buy...

Thanks Shultzy Very nice kitchen, lovely job! Some very similar thinking here, great minds etc. :) I'm using Bona Mega for finish of the carcasses, very similar to what you used, its a floor sealer, water based poly, hard as nails and can be rollered, quick dry time etc. I use this on our oak...
