Table and fence for Meddings radial arm drill

I finished off the table and fence a while ago and forgot to post it so here it is. Fence for tall stuff etc. fence for sheets etc. I have a bit of run out on the quill so I'm swapping it out for the old one and changing the bearing. Should be as good as new then :) Cheers Andy

American style pipe clamps/ sash clamps.

I use the Bessey ones with 3/4" pipe, work a treat. I bought a load of pipe and cut it to various lengths, plus you can use pipe joiners if you thread the ends. in use The legs do come in handy at times. Cheers Andy

Has anyone tried replacing viceroy bearings?

Well, only 3 months later, but my wood turning course is coming up in April so I thought I better extract the digit. :) I did get sidetracked with building work and the meddings renovation and other stuff. The top belt was just a little too tight at A51 so an A52 is on order and the bottom belt...

Table and fence for Meddings radial arm drill

Well I did do a bit more today as I ran out of some bits I needed for the other job I had planned. I got the two long outside tracks fitted and the table trimmed to size. First time I have used the Mafell plunge saw in anger, I used the laminate scoring facility before cutting through and it...

Table and fence for Meddings radial arm drill

Finally the courier was able to deliver the T-Track so I can get on with the table and fence. After laying the parts out a couple of time and going through various scenarios with various bits of sawn timber and sheet material, my first thought is a combined table able to do both. Also this...

New toy - Meddings Pillar drill

Rather than move the table up and down to get the chuck within striking distance of the workpiece, the base is the table and the rack and pinion moves the head up and down on the pillar. You will have to bolt or clamp the base down on yours I think. Cheers Andy

3M Peltor Optime III neck mounted ear defenders

I've just bought some of these so I can use them with glasses, goggles, JPS respirator cap and various other eye protection I use. Not delivered yet but I will post a review when they arrive. Just over 20 quid delivered. Anybody already use these? Cheers Andy

New toy - Meddings Pillar drill

Slippery slope - I did the same when I started renovating machinery, I went from a few odds and sods of tools to oodles, but it's taken me a few years and finding bargains is fun. It may be a while before I get around to consolidate the two into one and find out what I have spare, I have an...

New toy - Meddings Pillar drill

You could try a hex bit in an impact driver after giving the pulley a bit of heat. I would be tempted to soak the grub screw in a mix of oil and acetone for a while first. Obviously be careful with the acetone if your applying heat, let it evaporate :) Acetone and oil was tested against all...

Table and fence for Meddings radial arm drill

Thanks Matt. The original JB Weld is a two part epoxy, it supposed to set dark grey but when you sand it, it turns light grey but I suspect it will darken up if you polish it up a bit and it gets a bit of grease on it. The top is always going to look like the surface of the moon but at least...

Table and fence for Meddings radial arm drill

I know the other bloke, he's faster but not as thorough, debonair, handsome or intelligent ;) A bit more modest maybe :) I started this thread in addition to the more detailed refurb thread in on the other site mainly to talk about the fence for woodworking but I'm still waiting for the Incra...

    Chop saw recommendation?

Hi Shaun Use the supplied allen key to loosen the four bolts that are recessed into the protractor strip i.e. the curved bit where the angles for the mitre are on the front edge of the base. They only need loosening not undoing. Then move the saw until you get the correct angle. I just nipped...

    rust prevention

I shy away from silicon as It causes fish eye issues when painting with some finishes and tends to find itself onto everything if you spray it around. I spray a lot of metal in the workshop, I use panel wipe before painting but silicon is very pernicious.

    rust prevention

Here's an interim report Not much happened for the first few weeks when the surface plate was on a wooden bench. I thought this may be because it is small enough to keep pace with the ambient temperature so less condensation, so I placed it on top of the lathe bed and this is the result. I...

Table and fence for Meddings radial arm drill

It had to be done, I have bits of unfinished projects everywhere. Once the drill and table are finished, I'm back on the Viceroy lathe, just needs a bit of reassembly, then it will be benches. First the 8 x 4 holey table for cutting the bits of kitchen up, then the Roubo bench. I also need to...

Formica faced ply for an airstream caravan interior.

I bought a large sheet of Formica off the bay of thieves. Probably 8 x 4, it was rolled up in a box and well packaged with a bit of OSB at each end for protection. I used evostik. Worked well, when laminating large areas use some sticks across the ply after the adhesive has gone off. Lay the...

Table and fence for Meddings radial arm drill

Thanks TFrench :) I'm still waiting for Incra T-track so I can't start the table/fence yet, so I'm finishing off the new head. I sanded/filled/sprayed the top arm of the drill and all the ancillaries for the head at the weekend so should be able to assemble it this weekend and get it powered up...

ANYONE WITH AN ELU/DEWALT 1251 RAS?

The hose to my Elu RAS just pushes on to the oval fitting on the blade guard. Standard hose, nothing special, never dropped off. Just checked the pipe, appears to be 50mm OD 38mm ID black corrugated pipe. Cheers Andy
