    Business Insurance - Any recommendations??

Try NFU. You don't have to be a farmer, and they understand what we do, and are sensible about it all. I really rate them.

    Twin Kitchenettes

I'm happy to have finished this one at last! I designed and made these over a year ago for a small school I was working at. They've been sitting in a damp barn since then because the building they were to go in was so far behind schedule. I finally got to fit them last week. Spent the best...

    Making Custom Cabinet Hinges

Yes, it is! I would use a standard one but the trouble is I can only find ones that are much bigger than I need — ie joinery size, rather than small cabinet size. If you know of a source for little parliament hinges I'd be very pleased to know about it! I'm still playing around with...

    Low VS standard angle planes

I find that with a BD you can set the mouth to a setting where it's tight enough to deal with most tear out but there's still enough opening to be able to take reasonably deep cuts if needed without having to change anything. That's how I have most of my planes set up most of the time, but I...

    Low VS standard angle planes

One annoyance with Bevel Up planes is that if, say, you have set a tight mouth and then you want to take a deeper cut, you will have to open the mouth to advance the blade, otherwise the advancing blade closes the mouth up. Or vice versa. I find this really irritating.

Burr Elm Dining Table - Finishing

An oil finish will in fact speed the process up, as the oil goes dark over time as well as the wood! Still it takes a long time to go really dark, it will look good for many years. The best traditional oil finish for a table is tung oil, as it resists water spills better than any other natural...

    What's your Jack?

No. five record (quite a new one, came with plastic handles) with a Hock blade with a nice camber on it. It's my favourite plane. I changed the plastic handles — ergh.

Ultimate router for table — would this work?

Would it need to be built quite that strongly (ie similar to a comparable spindle moulder)? I was thinking that it was the much heavier and bigger cutter on a spindle that requires such a beefy set up — after all, since a 2KW router table needs nothing like the solidity of a 2kw spindle...

Ultimate router for table — would this work?

I can see where you're coming from here, though I have a fairly healthy regard for my own safety so if I do it I will make sure it is properly specified and not done in a heath robinson sort of way..... Controlling speed shouldn't be a problem — I've seen inverters that will go almost down to...

Ultimate router for table — would this work?

I've had an idea :? . Is there any reason not to get a nice powerful CNC router spindle, say 3 or 3.5 KW and make a bracket to stick it on a router lift in a table? I could get hold of a collet to fit 1/2" cutters, and an inverter to control the speed. It seems to me that the extra power...

    Angled tenons on tenoner

Quick question, can anyone tell me is it practical to do angled and compound angled tenons on a small tenoner like a multico tm 3? Thanks.

fun and games wth hide glue

I'm a bit mystified by all this to be honest. Everything I have ever read and been taught has said that, though hide glue can last for hundreds of years when well cared for, it does have a relatively high susceptibility to environmental conditions. I have seen veneered furniture stored in damp...

fun and games wth hide glue

And a great many of those have had to be re-glued and repaired! Re-glueing open seams is one of the most common repairs carried out on a violin!
