Sliding mitre saw worth extra cost?

I ummed & aahed over the Bosch axial glide 305 for three years, finally bit the bullet and have never regretted it. Precise, cuts through oak like butter, big capacity and a joy to use. I did go the whole hog & got the wheeled stand too but it was the D&M Kempton show (dam it, living so near...

    Mini CNC machine

A friend sent me a link to a Chinese cheapo recently, I was tempted but went into independent reviews & so didn't bother, I don't know enough about them to take a chance. I think you're wise to spend a little more with amazon incase of problems. Sure we'll all be interested to hear about your...

Things you say that got you into the dog house.

Yes I'm the same, with young children money was spread thinly, my hubby spent out on a big bouquet for an occasion, (& tbh it's rare that florists put anything decent in,) I felt he'd spent too much. I've said over & over since that a £2 supermarket bunch bought now and again for no reason other...

    What actually happened to Elu?

Oh yes, and very eco friendly, only carbon footprint they leave is the bit I grind away! 😂😂

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Trevor, well I'm very impressed with these! Thanks so much for explaining and the pics. My boxfull of 'too small to be useful, but just can't throw away' now have a purpose! Well I'm going to have to get the book now aren't I! (I will of course blame you when hubby sees another craft book appear😂😂)

The design is great, flows well and the accent wood really sets it off. What gaps? Only you see your 'design changes'!😉

    What actually happened to Elu?

I bet you are! 😂 What Tool addiction, overhauling my stash of chisels at the mo, includes mine, my dad's, granddad's and a few found on market stalls, counted 22 firmers today, not got to the parers, gouges, carvers or turning one's yet! Decided to make two sets up, one with all at 25° the other...

Was that b&d on the Great West Road by chance?

    Workshop First Aid, WoundClot Gauze?

Agree, on my first aid course also we told don't use a tourniquet just apply pressure until the professional arrives. 'first aid' is just that, before the second aid (pros) arrive.

What's the most stupid thing you've done in woodworking?

Well from your negative comes a positive, you have highlighted something to be mindful of for the rest of us. So I thankyou. I concluded some time ago that when I work a piece, at each stage I set it up then walk off, have a cuppa or do something else for 10 mins, when I return I check the...

Aahh glad you've put this up, (which looks brilliant btw.) I've been looking at a book on creating these but have so far stopped myself from getting yet another 'craft to try' 😅 Is this as interesting as it looks or do you think it could quickly become a bit 'samey'? What wood species did you use?

Is it practical to turn wood between centres with a driving dog?

Appreciating it can be difficult to explain an idea in words rather than showing, I'm thinking you want to work the whole length of the piece? If that's so then could you not just make the workpiece longer than needed, turn it then when finished cut off the unwanted pieces from each end? If I've...

Chuck for Rexon WL-12a? (Beginner's question)

Hi, I'm guessing you've probably got your question answered by now but if not & the lathe got shoved in the corner in disgust to collect dust, I had the same problem but today figured it out! On the bottom of the motor housing where the tube bed goes in there's a grub screw, (needs a 5mm Allen...

    Securing your workshop

There's so much scum out there, really feel for you. I have Hubble cameras that work from Internet, so even when I'm on holiday, (you remember those days!) I can just check in on things. They alert me on my phone noise, movement. The sensitivity can be set so you don't get the bloomin spider...

Absolutely love this, I'm in the process of designing a jewellery box our my daughter. I be just bought a piece of Ovangkol & am between splined corners or doves. Seeing your contrast splines now I think they'll show off the timber & doves probably won't show up so much. So thanks for these...

Chuck for Rexon WL-12a? (Beginner's question)

I just used a 28mm spanner on the nut behind the plate. The little knurled silver coloured T piece just on the motor casing is the 'stop' pull up & twist so the plate won't revolve whilst undoing the nut.

My upholsterer friend asked me to make these beech bed stools for his customer, and after he's worked his magic in situ. He said Beech takes stain well. Which is good to know!

    Warped box lid

Very thoughtful & a pretty result. Your workshop humidity will always be different to a central heated house, so for future projects if you can store the timber for a week in a similar climate to where it will end up, in this case a warm house, you will see what the wood will do, cup, twist even...
