    Sanding machine

Haha, you could be right Andy. Or persevere with my current method. I’m quite surprised, as I thought this was a fairly obvious tool. Thankyou for looking.

What tool did you buy today?

My first Liogier rasp and riffler. I’ve been promising myself one since I first saw Noel’s video about how they are made, years ago. Now that Workshop Heaven are carrying them, I decided I could justify it because they weren’t coming all the way from France :D I have to say, they are not...

    Sanding machine

Ah, it’s not variable speed though and that’s key I think.

Both, Thankyou for that. I think that’s exactly what I’m looking for! I shall look a bit deeper.

    Sanding machine

The sanding tool that I use most often in my workshop, is my lathe, with a Jacobs chuck and one of several sizes sanding arbours in it. It’s really handy to be able to offer the workpiece up and quickly change the abranet abrasive and/or the speed. I have suction rigged up underneath it and I...

    Simple project with my daughter

So, I’ve done a couple of cooking lessons with both my 4 and my 6 year old and that went pretty well (mushroom soup, since you asked). So I thought I’d try my hand at what used to be called CDT when I was at school. My lad, who’s 4, wanted to learn to build a fire, so that’s what we did, after...

    Manchester guys

Richard Potter in Nantwich might be able to assist, depending on where in manchester he is. How much does he need? I’ve got small bits of walnut, but I’m talking maybe 9” long (I’d have to check).

    The Criterion No 3 Hatchet

I’ve got a few of those and they are brilliant. They take a great edge, which lasts for ages and Have a really good weight to them as well. I’ve started using green or part-seasoned wood for the handles as it feels much better to my hand.

    Help with wood ID?

I’m no expert, but the darker strips look like walnut to me. Maybe some idigbo as well? You could make some really lovely bread boards by cross-cutting, off-setting the timber and laminating so the end-grain is facing up. Good luck.

I'll need something to put my tools in...

Hi Dan. Excellent WIP and what a fantastic man-cave. I recommend getting Steve Maskery's DVDs on setting up told (definitely the bandsaw one at least) which should help you to get the best out of your kit. In terms of the lever...I think the idea is to release it if you are going to not use...

New Veritas Precision Rotary Tool Holder.

The trouble with the Lee Valley ones is that they look so good, I want them anyway. With the last one, I was genuinely thinking how useful that might be...

    How to colour epoxy resin?

As an alternative (and best is larger voids), mix in brass powder to your epoxy. This looks gold/green when sanded and I think the contrast is stunning in areas where you couldn't convincingly match.
