    Burr bowl

Cheers for the feedback Chas...I do need to experiment with different finishes.

    Burr bowl

Time for me to show and tell I think. Here is a brown mallee burr bowl. I haven't oiled it yet, but it has had several coats of shellac sealer. It's only the second burr I've tried and the first ogee shape, so I'm fairly pleased with it. Constructive criticism would be very welcome.

A very small very large tool gloat

Graham, it's no problem to me mate now, I was just trying to warn you really. I hope yours is great, but I'd just say that if you find any niggles whatsoever, get Axi to sort them straightaway or just send it back. In essence, it's a great and very solid machine with a great depth of cut. Give...

    My big achievement

Well done for sticking with it for that long mate, you should be very proud of yourself.

A very small very large tool gloat

Sorry Graham, but it is rubbish, for a certain value of rubbish. The cut was great eventually, but it took a long time and a trip back to the workshop to sort it out. First of all the tracking was totally off, which ended up with me having to adjust the bottom wheel on the advice of one of...

    New Chuck advice

They seem to be moving more and more of the small CNC work back to this country, which is great. It may be that they are re-tooling for the jaws as they recently did for the carriers, which were out of stock for several months. Enjoy.

    Advice on a compressor

I am after buying a compressor to use to blow dust from bowls etc. I would also like to use it for inflating bike tyres and possibly in the future the odd air tool. Axminster do a 24L compressor with basic tools for £120 (sadly not £12 as I originally put) and I don't really want to pay any more...

    axminster precision chuck

Why that chuck specifically? The carriers and jaws are the same for all Axi chucks, why tot just get the K10 or the Goliath chuck? I've got a precision and it's ok, but to be honest, I preferred the K10 I've just sold.

    Kity 664 lathe

This site http://www.teknatool.com/products/Chucks/Identifying%20Lathe%20Spindle%20Thread.pdf suggests that Kity lathes use 33 x 3.5, but it doesn't specify your lathe specifically. There is a handy guide to determining your spindle size at the top of the page.

    Help choosing my first lathe

Hi John and welcome to the forum. It very much depends on what you want to turn as to what features are needed. I learned on the Axi AWVSL (it's me that has it for sale in fact) and its great for the money, but it obviously has limitations. For its size and price, its a cracking lathe and...

    Tool rest and banjo

I had exactly the same problem as you and so I got some 15mm bar and used a tap and die set to make a longer rest. It did work, but I got a bit of movement from the first one I made due to the small thread size I used.
