The new Excalibur 2014 scroll saws

I've got an Excalibur EX-16 (16inch throat) Had no problems with it apart from the bottom clamp needing replaced but that was because it's been being used quite a lot since I bought it June 2013. Other than that I'm completely happy with it. Doing everything I need it to and more. The Hegner...

    Exciting news! (For me anyway)

Yep the one in the University should be on display soon. Not sure when though as the frame/case is still being built for it by the Universiy. I've been told I'll get an email when it's up in the Uni and GSC :D

    Exciting news! (For me anyway)

:) cheers Yeah took a while to make. As I was making 3, 1 for the Uni and 2 for the science centre The timber used was Sapele from Reid Timber I'm Glasgow. Couldn't have done it without his help as I don't have any other tool than the scroll saw. So big thanks to him for band sawing it up...

    Exciting news! (For me anyway)

Just an update on this if anyone is interested :) Photos can be found on my Facebook page (search Keatocrafty) But I'll see if I can post any here. They are quite blurry (tried emailing them to myself & sending as smaller JPEG as I'm on my ipad) The full res ones can be seen on my Facebook...

    Missing members

Sorry I haven't posted much either. Been too busy with my new toy. Got an iPad air for the scroll saw business as bringing out my iPhone for customers to see what items I've previously made was a little bit of a small screen. Bought myself a bamboo stylus to go with it & a couple of apps so I...

    Not a happy bunny

Wow, I never even thought about font curved like that (type on a path tool) I myself have an Excalibur & love it. I think a Hegner was a bit too expensive for me but I heard good things about & got one :) That's pretty good for your first go at scrolling!

    Question about whitewashing wood

Hey, thanks for the advice all :) I did tell the customer that I hadn't heard of it before so I would try it on a bit of scrap wood first to practice (I've got some scrap beech). If I'm unable to do it then I'll let her know (the customer is like 10 mins from where I live). I'm not charging...

    Question about whitewashing wood

Hey all, Been a while since I've been on this and I thought I'd come back as I need help with something I've been making puzzle names for people & they all love them though I've just received an order and instead of dipping the finished product in Danish Oil, the customer wants it 'whitewashed'...

Found a decent foot switch for my scroll saw

Instead of making a new thread I thought I would ask in this one (since its about foot switches) Currently super happy with my Excalibur scroll saw but getting a bit tired using its normal on/off switch on the top of it. I've seen this discussion and have looked up some foot switches / pedals...

    Box for scroll saw

ah right, so maybe I should avoid plastic altogether? I have a BBQ cover already and its GIANT lol. In fact I could probably fit the Excalibur inside it never mind just putting it over the top. I guess I could figure out a way to construct a wood box for it. Possibly out of Plywood from B&Q...

    Box for scroll saw

I've searched everywhere and even took a trip to Ikea to see if they had any plastic boxes large enough. Because I live in Scotland and my scroll saw is in my garage I wanted to find a box (plastic) that was big enough to fit my Excalibur EX-16 inside to seal it up from the elements. Does know...

what was your first ever piece ??

Unfortunately my first ever 'piece' was cut on the Proxxon DSH/2 and because the machine was faulty the 'piece' was more of a piece of wood than a piece. I've said piece too much. Now that I have my Excalibur EX-16 I'm much more confident with my cuts. Anyway, It is my little cousins birthday...

    Wood name puzzle

Hey Geoff, I've not actually tried MS word yet though the funny thing is my mum told me to use Word and use WordArt. I ended up opting for Adobe Illustrator by moving the letters closer together then using the 'Pathfinder Divide' tool and came up with this >> It's just a test to see if this...

    Wood name puzzle

Hi all, I thought I would ask on here as someone may be able to help. Unfortunately I lack creativity though in time i'll gain some but for now I need help with a project. I've seen people make names out of wood but as a puzzle where the letters all fit together, like seen here...

    New to scrolling

Hey all, quick update on this. I'm just off the phone with Axminster regarding the problem with the Scroll Saw. I have now got a new problem which I explained over the phone and I was told i'd be called back tomorrow (as they shut in about 30 mins) from either the guy I spoke to (Simon) or an...

    New to scrolling

Yeah I'n going to be phoning Axminster tomorrow to find out if my Scroll Saw actually does take plain end (pinless) blades. It says on the website that it does. It doesn't say anything about needing an adapter. So if they turn round and tell me that it does in fact need an adapter then i'll be...

    New to scrolling

I can see your all a friendly bunch :P I'm looking forward to learning more about scrolling. As it happens I'm actually heading into Glasgow City Centre to find a place I found online called Reid Timber.
