    Bolt blanks?

Many thanks for your response Jelly, I think I’ve tried to be a bit too clever with an idea without thinking it through fully..! The Huge set of taps and dies was actually free from a friends fathers estate, so I was probably subconsciously trying to create a use for them. Heat treating...

    Bolt blanks?

I’ve recently acquired a very large set of taps and dies. Plug taps, taper taps all sizes. In - metric, BSW, BSF, BSP, UNF, UNC. I’m set for life essentially. I’m just getting into renovating old woodworking equipment, and seem to need a good supply of BSW/F bolts at present. They are actually...

    Wadkin Ags Spindle

Hey A1Dutch, I’ve just taken an AGS10 spindle apart a week or so ago (I’d assume it was pretty much the same as yours) I’ve popped a few pictures below that might be of use if you’re unsure. I used a bearing puller and a piece of copper so I didn’t chew the end of the spindle up. I put a bit of...

What is this bench drill attachment?

Thanks for all the input, I eventually got sorted as it had been on the back burner over Xmas. I spent a wee bit of time researching chucks and I now know about MT shanks and Jacobs tapers. Got this really nice (in my opinion) Jacobs Chuck No 34 that is British made and feels very solid. Cheers all

    Sash cramps

Ive got some of these exact clamps. They’re fine. I bought 4 in total. 3 work smoothly and the 4th - the screw thread doesn’t seem to be seated correctly and it’s a bit stiff to turn. I didn’t notice much flex in the clamps even at full extension when clamping. For the money they’re fine.

    Wadkin AGS 10 restoration

Try it on a small area and see for yourself 😉 I finished off with wire wool. To clarify for google translate errors - just use the naked blade (not in the knife handle)

    Wadkin AGS 10 restoration

My AGS 10 table was in a similar state. I found a Stanley knife blade and easing oil very effective, I’m sure WD40 would also work. Hold the knife blade at 40 degree angle (you could make a wooden holder out of a piece of scrap if you are concerned about your hands) and a few passes should...

What is this bench drill attachment?

Evening everyone - I’ve kindly just been given this bench drill by a customer from my day job as he was having a clear out. What is the attachment used for? He wasn’t too sure. Would anyone know if it’s likely that I’ll be able to track down a “normal” Chuck for this drill so I can use it? I...

Picking a 3 phase motor star point - practice

An eagerness came over me and I’ve been down in the shed. Success on finding the star point! Found first time at 10/11 position, Thanks Fitzroy! The once material tape holding the windings had turned rock solid and all I could do was break it off by teasing with wooden sticks and carful use of...

Picking a 3 phase motor star point - practice

Thanks all, I’ve got Tuesday off so will have a dissection then, starting at the 10/11 area. Trevanion - you could well be correct on the “too much grease”. When I pulled the bell ends off, there were lumps and lumps of orange grease, the consistency of fresh potters clay.

Picking a 3 phase motor star point - practice

Evening all, I’ve a few three phase machines I’ve been eyeing up which are not dual voltage motors and I only have single phase. I like the idea of VFDs as they are relatively low cost and the soft start and speed control are appealing. So thought I’d have a practice at finding the star point...

    What is this called?

Hi sunnybob, I can’t be sure to find one on eBay. Ive had a very thorough look for some days but I’m not sure what this type of screw is called hence the title name of my initial post. It’s like a cheese head Machine screw with an extra wide shoulder below the head for fitting into the planer...

    What is this called?

Ahh I thought you were volunteering there Aiden! 😉 it’s hard to find places like that where I’m not going to be charged silly money for such a small part..

    What is this called?

Hi Brian, It’s 1/4” BSF - I’ve put a tap through the hole and it’s matches thread pattern. No the thread doesn’t need to go all the way up to the shoulder.

    What is this called?

These are planer blade/knife height adjustment screws that engage with the slots in the blade/knife. One is particularly shabby and has been bodged as I assume the original went AWOL, this is how the machine came. There isn't really enough metal left to cut the slot deeper with grinding disc...

    Grease nipple lubrication

Good evening, I’d appreciate some viewpoints on lubrication if anyone would care to give me their two pence worth? I’ve recently refurbished a Multico planer 6. I’m new to machine refurbishment and this is only my second machine. I’ve really enjoyed using various posts to help me along the...
