    Speakers

If fitting the speakers on the left hand side of the icon, make a box square or oblong and add the rest as an add on parts, not part of the speaker enclosure. You can buy speaker kits, you make the box, they supply cabinet design, speakers, grills, crossover and wiring bits, and terminals for...

Back on the tools and workshop ramblings

Very much enjoyed, we all need inspiration. I followed a similar career path to yourself and have now also returned to my trusty bench. Best time of my life really, which I consider to be most fortunate, without forgetting those who are less so.

Coloured epoxy resin inlaid on veneerd birch ply details.

I never knew that existed, that is a problem for an old carpenter and joiner like me when he wants to try his hand at cabinet making/veneering, well out of touch. I know Original Marquetry do ebony lines, finding it difficult to find a black ash line supplier, anybody have an idea please.

Coloured epoxy resin inlaid on veneerd birch ply details.

Since my last post, I have reconsidered what to use for the lines. Think 6 x 6mm Ebony would suit, I have a few lengths so will try with this first to see if it is pliable/plausible. Chris

Coloured epoxy resin inlaid on veneerd birch ply details.

I am wondering if there would be colour all the way through/deep penetration on 6mm sq. wood to allow for planing/scraping flush? Chris

Thanks all for responding. My son who has only just started using epoxy resin and he thought my design idea had practical issues also. Anyway, think I will tweek the design to allow 6mm ebony square lines instead of introducing curves. At sometime in the near future I will have a go with epoxy...

Coloured epoxy resin inlaid on veneerd birch ply details.

It is easier if I say what I think I may do and you can sort me out as required, please. Table top, veneered on birch ply. Cut slow curve design across the middle. single 6mm curved line around 5/6mm deep? It is this detail that requires the coloured epoxy resin. I think if I give the...

    Mitres with 18mm Birch ply.

Afternoon, I am about to construct a coffee table with a gas piston raised lid (Hafele). The base section is from 18mm Birch ply and I was going to mitre the 4 external corners, my only issue is when I round over the corners that I do not expose the darker ply. I want to leave a natural oiled...

Essential shopping list for beginner cabinet maker

I made my bench first, all from Russian/Siberian Pine in the early 70's, still using it today, although it could do with modernising a bit. I remember the yard foreman telling me to watch my tools as I may find the odd piece of shrapnel! I am convinced this is the way to start this career/hobby.

Satin/gloss clear finish to veneered boxes

Thanks everyone. I will stick with the wipe methods for these projects, probably as per sunnyBob procedure. I like OSMO products. I used their O.B wood stains a few years ago, excellent results, maybe the next one. I will have a try at Lacquer sometime in the future. My son has made some...

Synthetic board edging, with ply end grain design

A few years ago I ran a contract, where the specialised joinery was edged with a ply end grain detail. I have tried to source this but for a while now with no success. I was wondering if anyone can help! Chris

    Materials for unit doors

I was hoping to avoid having the material spray painted and then working with it, as I may need some wiggle room for the stringing to be flush. Chris PS: sorted now, it will be birch ply as the carcass
