I'm afraid I can't get excited over Space X.
Being old enough to remember watching Sputnik crossing the night sky, shortly followed by Gagarin's first orbit and then eventually the moon landings in '69, I find the launch of another manned rocket a bit same old same old.
I am however impressed...
The best bar snack I ever had was in a bar in Goslar in Germany back in '85. It was described on the blackboard as 'brot mit schmaltz'. I didn't have a clue what schmaltz was but thought I'd give it a go.
What came up was a plate of delicious crusty bread and a pot of beef dripping.
Delicious...
In Belgium our favourite take-out dish was brochettes and frites with a ladle of gravy. Delicious! And the best chips I ever tasted were in Zandvoort and had been twice cooked in horse fat.
I'm not so sure that the 'fritesaus' on chips in Belgium and the Netherlands is actually mayonnaise. There...
Worse than carrots in pasties is the 'traditional' Kiwi beefburger which has a thick slice of beetroot in it. Maccas haven't taken this up yet but give us time...

A new cherry handle for an old Stanley 12 oz Warrington that belonged to my Dad.
Used spokeshaves, files and abrasives to shape. Finished with BLO.

Apologies, Pete. My older brother, a Canadian citizen since 1965 and resident just outside Ottawa, would never forgive me for that.
Poutine? Isn't that Irish moonshine? Ah no, that's poteen. :)

Sorry, but you are wrong there. By delaying the death of people from the disease you can await the development of a vaccine.
Oz and NZ are already in talks about reopening their borders to one another. Also, NZ had already identified its over-dependency on tourism before the outbreak of the...
You're probably right, Pete. It's a reflection of the North/South divide in the UK. Where you have the Mason Dixon Line, we have 'North of the Watford Gap'.
Mushy peas are probably the Brit equivalent of Tex/Mex. :)

You astound me. If you'll forgive the observation of an outsider looking in which admittedly is based on reports from MSM and chats with friends and relatives in the UK, the lock down regime in the UK has been farcical. Whether this is the result of confusing guidelines, selfish actions or...
I went shopping at the local supermarket yesterday for the first time since lock down.
Wandering through the 'International' section, I spotted a tin of Bachelors Mushy Peas (the UK's contribution to international cuisine :) ) and thought they'd go well with some fish and chips.
On getting home...
Just an aside. A friend of SWMBO's works in the bullion trade in Wellington. She says there has been a marked increase in US customers buying and depositing bullion in NZ. There is also a reported upswing in applications from the US for NZ residency.
Well, it makes a change from the Asian...
Not necessarily smaller, although a few positions could be lost if a large 'Town Hall' were no longer needed. As far as I can see, there are only a few departments that would require a publicly accessible office (planning, building consents spring to mind). Much of the work is already conducted...
Philski. My missus has found the same. Working from home (for the local City Council) she says her productivity has increased measurably due to the lack of constant interruption from colleagues dropping in 'for a chat'.
As the council were on the verge (pre-Covid) of closing the building...
Aah yes! I forgot the Western Hills, Korokoro, Normandale etc. Are they classed as Petone?
Anyway, I don't think there was a tsunami alert. The epicentre of the quake was put at 30 km north of Levin, not offshore.
Cheers,
Pete
