    Have you noticed....

The roads are already disintegrating and it is not caused by bicycles. Moat club cyclists are already covered for 'third party' insurance by their membership of various cycling organizations.

    Buffing kits

Before the Chestnut system was available I made my own with mops from the Polishing Shop. I turned three cones, 50mm long and 70mm diameter with a central hole to take a M10 coach bolt and a couple of locking nuts, and a tenon to fit my chuck . I fitted 200mm mops, a B grade for the tripoli...

    Bike maintenance

Upside down is not a good idea with hydraulic disc brakes. I hang my bike from the rafters with a couple of old innertubes. Works well for me and I ride off-road three times a week and have to clean the bike frequently now that the rain has started. ,

    Chuck jaw advice

I was a Toolpost customer from 2010 to 2018, so not one of his first customers. I found them always to be helpful, the only problems I had were with the jaw carriers for the Versachuck and these were always resolved in a friendly manner. Peter was generous with his time and advice.

    Feeling old

We would have died for a Floppy Disc-when I started in computers during my National Service (RAPC) all input was on punched cards or paper tape!

    Staining Beech

Thanks Richard, I will stick with water based stains after raising the grain and sanding.

    Staining Beech

I have a couple of projects on the go, both tables with turned beech legs. I wish to stain them to match existing dark oak furniture and had intended to use Chestnut spirit stain but have been told that spirit stain may go blotchy on beech. Is this likely? I only have experience of water based...

    I'm a cyclist.

Quite right. When I bought a carbon fibre bike after years of riding hand built steel frames it was noticeable that more power from turning the pedals went into forward motion rather than being absorbed by flex in the steel bike.

    Would you believe it!

Back to basics for me would be a couple of chisels, a mallet and a drill. I'm only a hobbyist woodworker but I had 8 new doors to hang when I moved house and it was not a difficult job with hand tools.

    road cycling

As the Tour route changes every year it would be quite difficult to live a few kilometers from the TdF, unless you lived on the Champs d'elysee!

    New bandsaw...decision made

I hesitate to offer advice on the BS300 as they have evolved considerably from my 16 year old model, it has cast alloy wheels and not the cast iron you get now, and the fence is not the "industrial Startright design". However the table is larger, the doors have locking knobs and, more...

NO, the round plastic knob on the top.

    New bandsaw...decision made

I also struggle with the tension knob on my BS300. Does not greasing the cam attract a lot of sawdust? There was a thread under Projects - Repairing my Record Power BS300 bandsaw dated 8 May 2015 where the poster had replaced the plastic tension knob with a crank handle. A much better solution.

    Workshop flooring

I have ribbed rubber mat and my advice would be to avoid it. It is only possible to sweep along the ribs so it is difficult to remove sawdust from under tables etc. without using a vacuum cleaner.

    Spring time power washing

I use a similar product called Wet & Forget (made in New Zealand) that is applied in the same way. You do not get instant results but the product works over a period of months aided by the elements. I applied it to my brick block driveway last year and it now looks as if it has been pressure...
