    Planers - electric hand held.

I do have a stand alone planer/thicknesser, but a hand held jobbie has its applications. Unfortunately there's not a one size fits all type tool :( I've gone and looked at the planes mentioned above and found pdf instruction manuals, all seem to have a better blade alignment system than the...

    Planers - electric hand held.

I've had a few cheapo electric planers over the past 30+ years, all have done the job I bought them for, and treated them as disposal. However I'm thinking of getting something better. My biggest issue with the cheapo planers is that they have rotors similar to the image below The replacement...

Fungus on oak - How can I cure/get rid of?

I've just acquired a large chunk of oak (8" x 8" x 96"), however from poor storage the one end has bits of fungus growth. The timber seems to be sound. I intend using this for a oak framed porch on a traditional timber framed cottage (as is black & white cottage), so will be exposed to the...

    I need more balls!

I've just had a new oak stairs fitted, and on the tops of the posts are large balls as per the photo below (that's if I've managed to attach it correctly). To match, I've had some 50mm (2") oak dowels made for curtain poles together with custom made brackets. Now I was wondering if anyone knew...

    Recovering rotten/wet wood?

I've been under the vehicle today doing other protection work, whilst under the vehicle it gave me the opportunity to have a good look under the doors. The moisture is congregated around where the aluminium frame is joined which sort of confirmed the moisture is being sucked in to the frame via...

    Recovering rotten/wet wood?

I think the dampness is an accumulation of 9 or so years where moisture has bee pulled in to what should be sealed cavity, and then not being able to get out, hence the problem. Getting the door off is not an issue. I have looked around the door to see any obvious signs of moisture entry, and...

    Recovering rotten/wet wood?

I have a motorhome in my yard that needs some attention to some doors. The basic construction of the motorhome consist of a white fibreglass skin of about 2-3mm, then a ladder framework made from 40mm x 30mm white pine to give a wall thickness of about 40mm. In between the plywood framing is...

    Hinges - Kitchen cabinet type

I've taken a look at all the leads, including a relook at Screwfix. Found some that will do the job, even though they don't open to 180 degrees. Satisfied :D

    Hinges - Kitchen cabinet type

Hi, Screwfix only sell ones that open to about 90 degrees, unless you've identified one that I've missed? Lots of people sell similar which open to about 90 degrees, but I've not found any that exceed 90 degrees, hence the question here. Thanks Steve

Pine wood colour - white to orange - how to stop please?

Hello Bugbear, The original board is a sort of light MDF with a sort of light beach veneer. I don't wish to start veneering the pine if that's what you were thinking.

Pine wood colour - white to orange - how to stop please?

I'm making some changes in a motorhome. The furniture board used in this motorhome is a light wood colour (and is stable as far as colour is concerned). I have made some changes using ordinary pine which is currently the same colour as the furniture board. As most people know, pine will colour...
