Are these cheap jigs good enough for a one off?

I disagree, these bits normally work fine, it's a hole for a concealed hinge not a hole that's going to be seen by anyone, no point spending anymore on a better quality bit in my opinion.

Are these cheap jigs good enough for a one off?

Yeah I've got that exact jig and bit and it works fine on chipboard/mdf doors. Not used it on solid wood

    Block plane

I would invest in a better cast block plane, I've had a few of the cheaper pressed steel ones and the difference between using them and a decent solid plane is night and day. See if you can borrow one from someone and have a go? Before you get frustrated spending hours trying to use an inferior...

Screwfix, what an utter pain in the proverbial

No, you are upposed to either look online and click and collect or go to the catalogue in the store, find what you want, write the numbers down (on the piece of paper they provide, using the pencil they provide) and take it to the till to pay. Its really not complicated 🤔

Can have more than a 4mm gap underneath on most, normally 8-10mm if I remember correctly.

Plywood desk - what about the edges?

If you want exposed edges on plywood you would be best off with a good quality birch ply

Screwfix, what an utter pain in the proverbial

Screwfix online has really gone down hill the last say 12 months, I've had no end of problems with wrong items sent or items just not sent at all. Funniest one was I ordered a Hive thermostat, and was sent a makita multitool instead. Absolutely useless they are, especially trying to get through...

    plug cutter

I use an Axminster barrel plug cutter in a cordless drill when doing skirtings/ door frames on site and it's really good. Decent price too I'm sure it was only 10-15 quid.

    Sawn green oak tolerances

They look perfect compared to some of the timber I saw at Homebase on the weekend, one piece was so bent I'm sure if you threw it away it would have come back.

    Furniture scriber branding outcome.

These look brilliant compared to the last ones, they really look quality now. How much are you selling them for? And are you offering ukworkshop members a discount? 👍

Firm Fixings in a Plasterboard Wall?

If you don't want to do any plastering repairs, then why not fix a long piece of wood the whole length of the wall fixed to each stud and grip filled on too, then fix the handrail brackets to that? Obviously if space is limited it might make the stairs a bit tighter.

    oak or softwood sleepers

If she wants the look of sleepers, why not clad the existing wall with sleepers ripped down then just use a full sleeper at the top layer? No one would ever notice the difference

Couple of decorating Qs: old rad pipes, and filling plasterboard

If you don't want to solder the old pipe, I would clean it up anf use hep2o push fit joints, far less likely to leak than compression fittings. Also, if you're soldering you'll want to get all the water out of the pipes which with the hep2o you don't need to bother. As for fixing the holes, if...

    Wire twisting tool

We uses to use a twisting tool for tying up bags of potatoes, no idea what it's called but you just pull it and it spins to twist ths wire. Edit: it was one similar to this... https://trabyhand.com/products/twister?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1eeelpSM8AIVBe3tCh2Tsw1gEAQYDCABEgKqyPD_BwE The wire...

    Bandsaw mitre fence problem

A bandsaw isn't the tool i would be using for getting accurate 45 degree cross cuts. I'd be using a Sliding mitre saw, or if I did have to use the bandsaw I would be finishing with a mitre slice or shooting board.

How to prevent a garden deck sub-base from rotting

It sounds like the deck is rotting from the top or the joists down, probably from moisture trapped between the deck boards and the joists, I don't think staddle stones would help in this case. Laying the decking with the grooves downwards actually helps a bit, letting air over the top of the...
