    Jacob that's the way I used to do it, but having the jig makes it so much easier, quicker, and you end up with a lot morw accurate job by the end of it.

    I buy what I need when I need it, or if its something I've been wanting and its on offer. I buy the best quality i can afford at the time. I certainly wouldn't buy a kit unless it was a fair bit cheaper than buying the individual bits.

    Are you sure you haf the base twisted into the lock position and locked in position?? Sometimes I almost forget and just do the locking bit up.

    I would go with pse timber but instead of buying a plane I would buy a cheap router and round over bit. Just run that over all the edges it'll be easier than planing it.

    Try watching the bandsaw clinic with alex snodgrass on youtube. Copy what he does and you can't go far wrong. Ive set up my bandsaw a few different ways but find his way the simplest and the best.
