    MR MDF door panel

Ah, just realised you want it grooved. Surely if you're buying a sheet of tricoya and pricing it into the job you'll have enough for inside and outside?

    Painting new plaster

That's a load of rubbish. Maybe you watered the Leyland down too much? I'm not a painting expert but our decorators probably only add about 10% water for the first coat. We use Leyland for every property we renovate, and up until now have never had any problems. ( been using it 10+ years on 20+...

    Best Vehicle for Carpentry

I've worked out of a pickup, jeep and van. I can comfortably say I wouldn't go back to the pickup or the jeep. The van wins hands down. So much easier for transporting tools and materials, and you get three seats too. :D

    Fitting a sash window

The ones I've taken out to replace have either been held in with wooden wedges or like bent metal pegs. The plaster holds them in place too. When I refit I used wedges then expanding foam.

    Plinth for heavy ikea wardrobe

I would just screw the frame, not much point gluing it, I would use something like 5.0 x 80mm woodscrews or maybe 5.0 x 100mm to screw the frame together. Then I would probably glue the ply on maybe with a few brads to hold it in place while the glue goes off.

    Plinth for heavy ikea wardrobe

I would probably opt for a white painted finish to match the skirting. With the size you need I would just buy a length of 5"x2" timber, make a box with a couple of central supports, and then cover it in 1/2ply. You could always add some skirting detail to make it less box looking.

    Are these worktops PRIME quality?

That's a good result. Probably just a mistake at the sellers end because they definitely weren't prime!

    DAB Site Radio

I don't think I've worked on a site without a radio, every tradesperson I know owns one, I wouldn't be without mine. The makita is a decent radio, also runs off bosch batteries too which is handy.

    Hanging new gates

I'll get his number for you today mate, He's over in Mansfield but willing to travel, I can't vouch for his gate fitting abilities but he's a landscape gardener so I'm sure he does quite a bit of it. He would be very reasonably priced. If I wasn't so busy I would come help you myself because I'm...

Attaching a French cleat to kitchen cabinets

Can't you just fix them to the wall the normal way? I don't know a lot about French cleats but won't the cupboard slope forward when that's mounted on the wall? Best way would be to cut a piece of ply to fit the recess in the back of the cabinet, glue and screw that in and then fit the cleat to...

    Sliding sash windows

When I'm making mine I tend to make the sashes to the exact size of the internal box width and plane them down when fitting on site until they slide nicely, normally take 2mm or so off either side, but I use accoya so minimal risk of the wood moving. I use lighting for most of my...

    SCREWDRIVERS

I go through a lot of screwdriver bits, the dewalts are ok, dewalts impact (black box) are complete garbage, addax v5 are decent, wera are the best I've tried.

    Grab Adhesives

Trex from ironmongery direct is decent. I go through tons of the stuff and it's only £1 odd a tube

Project Workshop build... a question on framing

On a 4 by 2 stud I normally use 5x 100mm. I have never drilled for a stud just bang the screws in with an impact driver, the same way as if you were skew nailing something, I don't know if skew screwing is a term? . Fixing the bottom plate to the stud I would probably use something like a 5"...

    Exterior MDF

If it's going to cost you very little then there's no harm in trying. You only get ten years if you're lucky out of the softwood stabilised decking anyway.

    Concrete sectional workshop?

The only other downside apart from the roof is the walls are a pain in the star if you ever want to fix stuff to them.
