Help choosing a Tenon Saw please.

Does anyone know what this one is, I'm trying to track it down on the Flinn website so i can see if it's crosscut. http://www.dm-tools.co.uk/product.php/s ... PWPAXTEN12 -edit- just found it, it does come in rip or crosscut. What makes the £100 Pax (and others) saws better than this?

Help choosing a Tenon Saw please.

Thanks Chesirechappie, that's really helpful. Am I right in thinking that it's really a rip cut that I want?

Help choosing a Tenon Saw please.

What would you recommend in a slightly bigger saw for around the same price? I had a Pax 'guitar' saw for fretwork which is nice but the tenon's are a little pricey I think.

Recommendations for a 6mm mortice chisel.

I looked at the Ray Iles chisels on the Old Tool Store, well, I say 'looked'. There wasn't a picture and you can't buy direct from the website  I also read a review a glowing review by Chris Scwartz, that stated that out of the six chisels he had "One of the narrow chisels (that 1/4"...

Help choosing a Tenon Saw please.

Thanks everyone. As I said, I want a new saw. I need it quickly, don't know a saw doctor in Bristol and don't know enough about old saws to know what's good. I haven't found a Veritas Tenon saw so i guess you're talking about the carcass saws - is this the one you mean...

Help choosing a Tenon Saw please.

At the risk of it ending up like the recent thread on dovetail saws :D can you guys recommend me a Tenon saw. I'm building a bed at the moment, so 6mm tenons in 20mm wide pine is the requirement. I also make guitars and want to get into some furniture work. I want something that is new, and...

Apart from the Narex, can anyone recommend a good brand of Mortice chisel. Do Asley Iles do one?

Narex Chisels - lots of photos

I'm not suprised, they're lovely. Is there much difference between these and the dovetail ones? Is it just the elliptical section? they also look lovely. Oh, and not that Workshopheaven needs anymore plaudits but I just have to say what great service. I ordered a waterstone that turned up...

From their website: "This effort was done in conjunction with a forge interested in keeping alive traditional techniques of quality production and ran as a sideline along with more modern techniques. Unfortunately the accountants have gained an upper hand at the forge and our production runs...

So, for my third brand, I've just received a 1" Ashley Iles Mk2 Bevel edged cabinetmakers chisel from Matthew at WSH today, great service as usual. This thing is beautiful. It looks and feels gorgeous and is very nicely made. The bubinga handle is lovely to the touch and is beautifully...

I think you're getting a bit carried away there Jacob, as I keep saying, the camera was a DSLR with a Sigma 50mm DG Macro lens. At that level of magnification it's going to show up machining lines on anything that hasn't been polished wether you can actually feel them or not (as you will see on...

Narex Chisels - lots of photos

It costs about £7 to send a set of 6 or 7 chisels first class, about £9 if yo want it recorded. So I reckon that's a pretty good deal if anyone wants to do it. As long as they're ALL knackered at the same time that is! I would exactly call that flannel, maybe someone's just being a bit grumpy...

    Electric solid body bass guitar

I know this is a bit late, only just seen the thread but are you routing downhill? When doing this you're best to ignore the usual rule of feeding the stock against the direction of the bit and rout down the curves This isn't my photo but gives you the idea - (it's by JWells on the TDPRI...

    Jessem Router table

I've had this table for a while now, mostly freehand routing with template bits for guitar bodies and necks and have now come to do some 'proper' joinery and something has occurred to me. Because of the way the insert plate is positioned, i.e. shortest side parallel to the mitre track, i can't...

Narex Chisels - lots of photos

I had a feeling you might  That's exactly what I said in my earlier posts, the photos/lighting exaggerate it but i think the tools would be more appealing to the market if the back and face were finished finer. You can feel the grooves if you run your fingernail along the surface...
