How would I make these tungsten carbide tools?

Cheers for the advice. Thats what I was thinking. I was wondering how these potters were figuring out how to mill tungsten carbide or having it produced by tooling companies but it hadn’t even crossed my mind that they might be buying from China. I do have a mate who might be able to produce...

How would I make these tungsten carbide tools?

Hi. Bit of a weird one. I do pottery in my spare time, which requires trimming tools like the ones below. The majority of these seem to be stainless but the good (expensive) ones are tungsten carbide and cost a fortune. Most of these seem to be sold by individual makers rather than big...

    Making carbide turning tools

I’ve been looking in to getting carbide tools but know someone who’s business buys the cutters by the bucketload and is willing to spare some. They’re identical to the replacement cutters sold in places like Axminster and Rutland’s. I also have some HSS blanks, enough hardwood spindle blanks to...

    I’m interested. I’ll send a PM.

    Building control (or not)

I was on site on a big commercial build a couple of weeks ago and the guys were testing the concrete twice a day and refusing to even pour it if it was below a certain temperature. The labourers were going mad and clearly wanted to get on with it. I can definitely see how a couple of bad apples...

    Drill Driver Set?

I picked up the Milwaukee with 4ah batteries today. Haven’t had chance to use it yet but seems well made. Bit annoyed that I’m building a collection of red and black tools. All my pliers are Minotaur or knipex and I have some cheap Wilko stuff the same colour. I’d like it if a big tool brand...

    Rexon BS-10 Manual

I used to have this bandsaw and I was in the same position as you. I seem to remember Tuffsaws knew exactly which blades to send me.

    Drill Driver Set?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I’m leaning towards a brushless 3 or 4ah combi drill with two batteries. Possibly Milwaukee. Then I’ll look at buying the driver later. I don’t think I’ll need many other 18v tools going forward. Maybe an SDS which will be cheap as it will only get used a few...

    Drill Driver Set?

My Ryobi combi drill is at the end of its life. It has lasted about 10 years but it’s never been great. I’m looking for a sub £200 impact driver/drill set. All my tools are corded so I’m starting from scratch with batteries and don’t really mind which brand. Screwfix have this Milwaukee...

    Mini table saw?

I’ve seen people online using the Festool one but it’s very expensive for what it is.

    Neat idea (wrong price!)

We have some extensions similar to these at work. They cost about £50 a pop and they regularly get left around and/or thrown out if they’re deemed unusable i.e someone missed them while PAT testing or the fuse has gone. I have a few I rescued from the bin and was planning on routing a slot in...

    Sharpening jig for short chisels

I have the Veritas MK2 and the basic Axminster one but I am very tempted by a whetstone grinder. The manual jigs work well but I find it’s a lot of faff before you get to using your tools.

What’s the very best caulk / sealant / adhesive

Half my kitchen is held together by the Everbuild stuff in the white tub. I echo the points about not overfilling. Sanding filler is a pain in the backside and takes hours if you’re feathering out large patches on wobbly walls like I was. Underfill, let it dry, then fill and smooth with a...

Today was a very different day than I planned

We decided to paint the kitchen a little over a year ago. As we were doing so we thought it might be a good idea to replace some knackered old sockets. I took a couple off the wall to reveal a botched, but easily fixable, DIY electric job which probably wasn’t up to building regs. While I was...

In praise of an own brand - Screwfix copper pipe cutter

I’ve been using an Erbauer track saw for a while and it’s great. I’m assuming Erbauer are a Screwfix in-house brand because I never see them elsewhere. I’m never buying Titan again. They probably have a few decent tools in their range but the ones I’ve bought have really let me down.

Central Heating Push Fit Fittings - Soldered - Tectite

I’m going to be attempting some plumbing soon. Only some small bits and maybe moving some bathroom pipes about to make everything a bit cleaner. Might be a stupid question but if I pre-solder as much as possible on the bench is there a way to check for water tightness before I put the rest in place?

Making unused cables behind plasterboard safe.

Over the weekend I removed a broken, useless extractor hood from the kitchen. The plan is to replace with a better one that vents outside (nice patch of grease on the ceiling when I took it off). It was a botch job, wired in to a nearby fused spur via a blanking plate near the ceiling. I can’t...

    Dust Extractors

https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/a-guide-to-dust-extraction-by-member-siggy_7.102025/ Check out the dust extraction guide. It’s a minefield, especially if your budget and space forces a compromise. I’m leaning towards a 2 motor CamVac but £400+ for a drum style hoover feels obscene to me.

    Bandsaw Stand (and sundries)

Afternoon. I managed to pick up a Jet 120s for very cheap. Seems like it’s been sat round for a while. Rusty and doesn’t cut well but the tyres are shot at so I’m hoping that’s 90% of the problem. Already done the de-rusting and looking at a set of the orange PU tyres. It’s mainly cast iron...
