My first MFT bench and remote controlled shop vac

The rolling bench was already made before I bought the PARF kit so the hole layout is optimised/maximised for the footprint of the table top. The folding section table top is slightly smaller because it was an offcut. I aligned the holes of the two tops with some custom made guides. For the...

Drilling 35mm holes in MR MDF for concealed hinges

Thanks for all your thoughts on this. So me thinks the tools and technique are probably OK and my issues are down to the substrate. The MRMDF in question was purchased between Christmas & New Year 21 when the only supplier available was my local builders merchants. It is moisture resistant...

Drilling 35mm holes in MR MDF for concealed hinges

Hi All, After not touching MDF in anger in 20+ years, and following a heavy dose of Peter Millard videos, I've bought a couple of sheets of MRMDF for some projects. The first one, a bathroom cabinet, needed 4 concealed hinges for the doors. I bought a cheap positioning jig and did a few trial...

My first MFT bench and remote controlled shop vac

Hi All, Sorry for the delay in replying. The remote controlled switch comes supplied with 2x key fob type remotes that use RF to control the switch - so not Bluetooth as such. The Scheppach vac is not the most sophisticated machine but it does the job and the form factor (oblong box) suits my...

Sliding mitre saw - big or small?

My first serious mitre saw was a second hand DeWalt DW708 (12" blade). It was a great saw and it stayed square for years at a time. With the appropriate blade I used it for cutting aluminium extrusions too. I bought it on eBay and sold it for about the same price I bought it for 15 years later...

My first MFT bench and remote controlled shop vac

Hi all, I’ve made my first MFT style table using the Axminster PARF Mk2 system. As you can see in the pictures I ended up making two surfaces in 18mm WPB ply, the second being on folding shelf brackets. I’ve been overdosing on Peter Millard videos recently and following his review I bought the...

    Router bit help

Tedious++ I'm hoping the Axminster drilling guide will be fine for the job. I can't see an MFT hole template on the Axminster site. Do you know who does make one?

    Router bit help

I could indeed start the hole with a Forstner bit and follow up with a router. I also have a cheap and cheerful Axminster drill guide which might well be square enough for the job in hand. Axminster Drill Guide I can do some trials to see what will work best. BTW: I plan to use dress making...

    Router bit help

Hi All, I'm planning a simple MFT table top to an existing work bench and would like to use a 1/4" router to cut the 20mm holes. So I need a router bit that is bottom clearing and has a centre spur so I can align to my pre punched hole centres, much like a Forstner bit. What is such a router...

Squaring up a small piece of sheet goods on a table saw.

Again, thanks for all your help on this subject. I've made a simple taper jig and it's worked pretty well on smaller stock. I've also taken the plunge (no pun intended) and bought a Makita SP6000K1 track saw which is a lovely bit of kit and makes squaring up large panels simple.

Squaring up a small piece of sheet goods on a table saw.

The material is generally 9mm birch ply which starts off as 8x4 and sometimes 10x4 sheets. 1200x600 is a typical size i'm using for some of my projects. Due to space I can't get a big table saw with a sliding mitre fence. Short of your suggestions above, I guess I need a track saw..

Squaring up a small piece of sheet goods on a table saw.

Hi all, Many thanks to all with your ideas, it's much appreciated. As has been said, the DW745 has a sliding mitre fence is only usable for very small bits of material: The picture above shows the saw with an after market mitre fence but as you can see, it's hopeless for any material that's...

Squaring up a small piece of sheet goods on a table saw.

My problem is that I start off with bits of sheet that do not have any square (90°) corners so I start by creating a 90° corner and then spin the wood anticlockwise until I end up with a piece with 4 right angles. But is that the right way to go about it?

Squaring up a small piece of sheet goods on a table saw.

Hi All, I have a small DeWalt DW745 table saw which is fine for dimensioning sheet wood no bigger than about 500x500mm. Using the table saw what it the correct way of producing a a square piece of wood with 4x 90 degree angles?

    Small Record Plane Identification

Thanks all. The idea of having the blade bevel down is totally counterintuitive to my little brain. Best wishes to all

    Small Record Plane Identification

Many thanks chaps. That's great. How about a bevel angle for this one? ..And bevel up or down?

    Small Record Plane Identification

Hi All, I own this small Record block plane and am trying to find out which model it is and what angle the blade should be honed to. Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Joint filler for an old dining chair

Hi All, A friend has brought me an old dining room chair with very loose joints. I've knocked it apart and it's clear it's been repaired numerous times before. Most of the joints have got some voids once I dry fit the chair back together. It's not a particularly valuble chair and I don't...
