Hi, was using my Katsu on some oak just yesterday, its my go too router if I can mage with the small size. Im far from expert but I think your problem is trying to plunge at all, these are Im sure fixed base routers, like the american style ones, you set whatever depth you require and gently tip...

    In need of advice

I have this problem, most of the time its not an issue then you discover that a very small drill will not be gripped, I was wondering about trying a pin chuck ( I call them “pin vices”,,dont know why though?) but held back because I was concerned that they might not run true,,has anyone tried? I...

    Wood burner fan

If he does decide to give a fan a go its worth bearing in mind that even the cheap B&Q ones had the reversing switches, so whatever direction is recommended you can just switch from one to the other,,a few years ago I was really surprised how cheap some of the fans were and to my mind the cheapo...

    Wood burner fan

Yes I had thought about computer fans because they are small and quiet but we have the room for a regular elect fan,,maybe one of those flat fan heaters could be tucked away somwhere? But Im intrigued by the fan that didnt work at all, fan spinning around but no air movement,,how is that...

    Wood burner fan

A very intresting post, esp the video, we have a Workzone fan (Aldi) and its two bladed, sitting on top of our Jotal cast iron stove, and I really cannot feel or detect anything in the way of draught when its running, I tried smoke but of course the heat from the stove just carries it up and...

    Sanders advice

I have to say, and I know its completely of no real relevance, but that Triton sander looks like a big bit of cheap plastic,,,and its £200,,,just the appearance of it puts me off.

Pocket hole screws. Length vs drill position...

Stimpy, first appologies for not responding sooner, Ive just seen your post and looked at the Yomo, it looks very good and it also has the lifting tower to suit different screw lengths, I suspect you could also remove the drill guide block and just clamp it onto somthing you wanted to pockethole...

Hand Saw Restoration and Re-teething of a 99p saw Completed

Yes its a great post and as I have a lovely old brass backed tenon saw that I bought at a bootsale only because it looked so lovely, seeing this thread is just perfect. One question I have is the file, slim triangular but looking online at them some are listed as single cut “double ended” I can...

car battery problem, any advice please?

If your not using the car much now because of covid why not see if you can just charge the battery up but then leave it disconected, one terminal off, esp on your driveway, you cannot lock the car but the battery will sit there quite happily for a very long time. Maybe you will lose your radio...

Help me out of this situation! Broken insert

Just as a matter of intrest, was the insert being screwed into solid wood, if so perhaps they are just not up to it? Not having had to try getting one out I have to say that my inclination is that a bolt screwed in with a nut really tightened up would only work if it was all pretty loose...

    Anvil Prices - What's Happened?

I watched a Polish guy making one from a piece of railway track a couple of years ago, and he made a really nice job of it, but a lot of work and as has been said, a lot of consumables, and where do you get a bit of track? I seem to recall small bits of track being sold on ebay. Ive no desires...

Pocket hole screws. Length vs drill position...

Hi, does your one look like the Trend one in the link above? I have two of these, a Trend and an Axminster I think it is, both clearly made by the same company and I dont use them much, perhaps a couple of times, first was on 25mm board and they worked well enough using 38mm Kreg Screws, however...

How to stop Lathe and Mill rusting in my shed

I never tried it myself but Ive heard of people throwing a “sheet” over a motorbike and then sitting a very small heater, like a small tube heater on the floor under it, the idea being to just keep the bike warm, you would need a very low powered heater and make sure the sheet didnt fall over...

    pillar drill features

I had one of the little cheap bench top drills, a wicks branded one that cost less than £50 and it was okay for years, once you have one a pillar drill is really useful, with such a small table lifting it wasnt an issue, however what I didnt like was the lack of power, drilling mdf doors for Euro...

Wood moisture meter for firewood logs - any recommendations?

If you have Ashtrees to split you should be very happy, Ive just split a good few ash rounds and they split really easily when fresh, Ive found most wood will split better when fresh, but the Ash was lovely. As to looking after your chimney etc,,well we had our log stove connected to stainless...

    B&D urban myth?

I can remember the days when I belted holes into concrete with a Rawlplug tool and club hammer, mostly for Pipe Clips so you could be doing a dozen or so at a time, surpriseingly effective in fact, and this was whilst working for a biggish firm,,never seen an electric drill, the rawlplug tool...

New type of Integrated Appliance door hinges,,

Yep, I can see that its will all be a lot more solid,,esp as I can now see that the hinge will be screwed to the cabinet as well as the fridge and the trim door hanging out there on top,of it all,,,still seems like a complicated arrangement though,,
