Mystery pipe - what to do?

Glad it ended well, and I wouldn't have felt embarrassed calling in the gas board etc, even if it was just a bit of scaffold. Within minutes of beginning digging my workshop footings, I hit what appeared to be gas or water pipe. Cue MUCH swearing, and careful excavation with a trowel (Time...

Couple of decorating Qs: old rad pipes, and filling plasterboard

Thanks for your reply. I cleaned the old pipes until they shone, using abrasive strips specifically for the purpose, so not sure how much cleaner I could have got them. Interesting point re 1/2" - perhaps that was the issue.

Couple of decorating Qs: old rad pipes, and filling plasterboard

Hi all, Calling on help from the UKW brain trust... I have moved several radiators, which has left large-ish holes in the ceiling where the old pipes used to run. Any tips on product for filling these? Holes are approx. 3" by 1.5", so a bit too big to just splurge caulk. Also, the next rad to...

Rectangular hole? They've managed to make both construction and repair that much harder! Fingers crossed your fix has sorted it.

How tiny is tiny? A well-known auction site has various listings for grommet selection packs in assorted sizes.

Coronet Major/Minor table saw attachments - accurate?

Hi I have a Coronet Major, and was wondering how good/accurate the table saw attachment is? Is the fence reliably accurate? I know these have lack a guard underneath, but that could be addressed, if the saw is worth bothering with. Are they any better than the average DIY-grade table saw...

    More beer for me

As cabinetman said, sloe gin is easy (and super tasty), you just have to have the patience to let it do its thing. Blackberry whisky is made the same way and is awesome, and can transform the nastiest cheapest rough@rse scotch in to something genuinely yum.

    More beer for me

Been home-brewing for almost 15 years, and still haven't got round to trying beer. I mostly make wine, and occasionally dabble with cider and ginger beer.

    Large ported subwoofer

Very nice - how does it sound? Interesting re the deliberately off-centre bracing - that wouldn't have occurred to me.

    Welder advice

If you go down the MIG route, then budget for a good auto-darkening helmet - it makes like MUCH easier

    Landscape Artist of the Year

Ditto Sean Scully. I'd be the first to acknowledge my ignoramus credentials, but he seems to have gone from mildly interesting graphic designs, to simply peddling roughly-daubed stripes.

    Bandsaw table top...replacement?

What about putting ply on top of the existing table? You'll lose some height, but it would be rigid, and easy to attach

    Steel rod/bar

I'd definitely not hesitate to ask at a large commercial firm - I have been allowed to raid offcut bins for free in the past. And the worst that will happen is they might decline your order.

I see you've already ordered, but another vote for Copydex. FYI, WH Smith carry it (at least, my local one does).

Cut off sharp end of pushpin

I recently used side cutters to cut off security tags from some clothes (that I HAD paid for at a self-service till - I simply didn't notice the tags 'til I got home. No alarm when I left the shop either). To my surprise, they cut the (stainless steel? Chrome?) pins with little difficulty - I...
