    Oil recommendation

Hello, I've got in to winemaking in an ever-increasing way (the GF calls it an obsession - but it means cheap booze!), so my next woodworking project will be a sideboard/table to stand the demijohns on, with racking underneath for bottles. Hopefully it'll be made from oak. My query is - what...

My retro curved TV cabinet. Thoughts ?

I like this a lot. It looks like it should be adorning Emma Peel's flat in The Avengers.

    Steel hoops

Thanks all for the replies, lots to think about. An old saucepan is genius! Loving that brick-built press! I think my OH would have a fit if I built something like that in the garden!

    Steel hoops

Thanks for the reply. Ironically, I have a friend who's a blacksmith, but he's so ridiculously busy, I feel bad asking! I like your thinking, though. I may take a trip to the dump and see if they have anything I could appropriate.

    Steel hoops

Slightly random, but... I want to build my own apple press. I would like 2 steel hoops, about 300-350mm in diameter, with the thickness approx 5-10mm by 40mm-ish (the exact sizes aren't important, but somewhere in that ballpark). Anyone have any idea I could get some, without having them made...

    Making my own shooting board

After a slight (2 months) delay, I have made a shooting board (constructed during the royal wedding - treasonous?). Anywho, I had a go at the sycamore boards. The edges have improved, but they're a long way from the perfect flat faces I want. I'm trying to plane 2ft lengths of inch-thick...

attempting to burn down the workshop...

Blimey! I like to think of myself as reasonably savvy re working safely, but wire wool as a fire hazard never ocurred to me. Thanks for the heads-up!

    Pallets

Glad it's not just me who's always on the scrounge for free stuff. The girlfriend giggles whenever we walk past a skip, 'cos she knows I'll be craning my neck to see if there's anything worth having... Good luck with the shelves/fence!

    Small Footstool

Nice, clean design. I like. Where did you get the walnut dowel, out of curiousity? It makes a nice contrast on this piece.

    Making my own shooting board

Will do! The shooting board is to enable me to work on my waney-edged sycamore shelves, so will do a 2-in-1 WIP (unless it all goes horribly wrong, and you'll never hear from me again!) Thanks again, everyone

    Making my own shooting board

Lovely. I see you all have snazzy planes for these. Is my humble Stanley jack going to be alright?

    Making my own shooting board

Reet, will pop to B&Q at the weekend, armed with a straightedge, and get a bit of MDF! Thanks all, for the replies!

    Making my own shooting board

I know this has come up a gazillion times before, and I've been reading through the various threads, but... Are these available to buy? The reason I ask is that I've got no way of cutting a dead straight edge for the guide piece (hence the need for a shooting board in the first place)...

    Aldi calipers

I got a set from Halfords a couple of years ago, and they have been fine. Though I did (as someone mentioned above) have to trim a little foam from the inside of the box lid, else the batteries kept going flat.

    Catch Question

I want to make a portable storage box. Picture a box about 12-14" square, and about 8" high. I want the top to be hinged (no problem), and also have the front "wall" flap down (also not a problem). However, what sort of catches would anyone suggest to keep the flap in place when not in use. It...

    Morgan factory tour

Never knew you could do a tour - that's just gone on my list of stuff to do. Would be great to see some pics if you can do that. Much obliged.

    Door frame questions

Somebody please shoot me now, there's clearly no hope if I can't even count to three accurately!! Thanks again!

    Door frame questions

I wouldn't fancy trying to fit that single-handedly! Many thanks for the pics! I presume that third pic is of the jamb meeting the header? Would you use the same joint for the bottom, or would that be a "closed" M&T (apologies for not knowing the correct terminology). And is open type at the...

    Door frame questions

Hello, Can you good people please help me with some door frame queries... We want to fit a pair of double doors in the house, where a previous owner had removed them. Upon investigation, it seems that the original hole was for a single door, with sidelights (?) on either side for about 2/3s of...

    Internal double doors question

I did mean in the middle. Apologies for not making myself clear. Unfortunately, I didn;t thnk to measure (or photograph) the profile of the door. I guess it'll depend on the exact design of the thing. I was wondering if this was something that had come up previously in anyone's experience. How...
