Myford ML1 (i think!) assembly questions

Assuming I have got it right, then what is the purpose of the lever in the foreground? This is it sitting at rest. The lever moves the pulleys further from the bed, so is of no help in changing to a different speed, as it would increase tension?? Or is it in belt-change position, and the lever...

Myford ML1 (i think!) assembly questions

Hiya, and I hope you are all having a good 2023 so far. I picked up a small myford metal lathe, advertised as "for restoration". However, everything feels tight where it should, and moves where you'd want it to. So far the only thing I can see broken it the lock-down handle to stop/release the...

making drill chuck adapter - is brass a dumb idea?

Hi I was chatting to a friend about this, who then gave me a piece, so I am sorted (until I screw it up!), but I really appreciate the thought. Thanks again.

making drill chuck adapter - is brass a dumb idea?

Hi, that's great, thank you. I will get some proper dimensions and come back to you for brass. Thanks again

making drill chuck adapter - is brass a dumb idea?

Hi Yes I am probably being a worrier over nothing, but everything I make is always massively overengineered! And it looks quite flimsy compared to the whacking great lump of steel that was the original part! Ta

    Air rifle stock finishes

As Steve Medlock mentions, gloopy stain/varnish can hide some pretty timber. I sanded back an old Gamo to find a very pretty piece of beech, which came up beautifully with 5 or 6 coats of danish oil.

making drill chuck adapter - is brass a dumb idea?

Hi, and happy new year As per another thread, I recently bought a multico K1 morticer, which normally uses different-sized adapters to hold the auger shank via a grub screw. It only came with one such adapter, and I was unable to find any more online. I found an adapter to fit the 5/8 motor...

Beautiful. I am cheerfully obsessed with old Wolf stuff.

    Willow 3-wheel bandsaw - anyone had/used one?

Hiya, No, I never did find any more info on them - one of the downsides of a pre-interweb age that makers came and went, and the paperwork went with them Glad to hear yours is going great - I managed to find a startrite for a reasonable price (albeit rather battered) , so ended up going that route

    Multico k1 collets?

Hello all. I have just upgraded to a multico k1 morticer, and I am very pleased with it. However, it only came with one chisel. I understand collets are needed to adjust for the shank diameter (apologies if any terminology is incorrect). Are these available for purchase anywhere? I have...

    Record 52 1/2 quick-release issue

Thanks all. Rob - great. I guessed this would have to be the route I take, but wanted to check others had successfully adjusted them, and that I wasn;t just going to trash it. Ta!

    Record 52 1/2 quick-release issue

Apologies if this should be elsewhere, but my vice is being annoying. It clamps up fine, but when you then try to unwind it, the mechanism just "clacks", and I have to depress the quick-release and force it open. I already dismantled it and cleaned out the tons of gunk fouling the threads on...

    Blow Torch Advice

I'd like an old paraffin blowtorch. But instead of flame, a flag pops out that says "BANG!"

    Rod bending

Being savvy and penny-wise (i.e. monumentally tight) I keep an eye out at boot sales etc for metal items I can re-purpose. £2 recently bought me a very odd pull-out hanging rack-thing that yielded enough rod to make all the hooks for my kitchen.

    Blow Torch Advice

Another vote for Rothenburger - as with all well-made tools it's much nicer to use than cheap stuff. However, if this is a one-off job then it may be a false economy.

    Adult tricycles

No use whatsoever, as I doubt Raleigh etc are waiting on my every word for their next design idea, but what about a tricycle where the single driving wheel is at the back, and 2 steering wheels are at the front. I spent my adolescence in apprenticeship (i.e. making lots of tea) in the workshop...
