How do you store your timber?

I store smaller pieces in a purpose-built cavity under my bench. It adds extra heft, so the bench doesn't budge a millimetre when hand planing, etc. I struggle to lift the bench when empty, so when laden, it isn't going anywhere.

    How green for turning?

I have recently been given a 4' ash stump, that was felled approximately 2 weeks ago. I know what I'd do if I were using it for sawn timber, but what about for turning? I've only ever turned fully (kiln) dried timber, but I understand it being a little green can be advantageous? I appreciate...

1950s kitchen utensils refurb - what paint?

Thanks both. I may give enamel a punt - if it fails, then I can just sand it off again.

1950s kitchen utensils refurb - what paint?

Hi I have a set of utensils similar to this, but the painted handles are looking shabby. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Retr ... true&rt=nc Would these have been painted with normal gloss? Or is there something more hard-wearing? How well does wood take enamel? Thanks

    Sycamore Chopping board Oil?

I've seen this mentioned repeatedly, but I have used olive oil on at least a dozen boards with no ill effect. Not trying to pick a fight or be argumentative - I was wondering if this has happened first-hand to a member, or is it purely annecdotal?

    Wiping varnish for kitchen tops?

Hi Would you mind posting a pic of the worktop with that finish? I'm currently in the planning stage, and was pondering this very thing with oak. Only if it's no bother though. Thanks

    Permanent labels for glass jars?

As per the title, I want to label some glass jars, for use with flour and the like (yes, I know that glass is see-through... but can you tell the difference between plain and self-raising, just by looking?? )... As these are part of a gift, I want them to stay looking neat after they...

Self-builders - how did you find your plot/s?

Thanks all for the replies. I'll keep hunting. Duly noted re the stress levels - I am conscious that this would be the hardest option. I am researching all options, and keeping everything on the table at this stage.

Self-builders - how did you find your plot/s?

Hi I have seen several threads from people who are/will be undertaking self-builds, and I was wondering how you came by the land in which to build on. I need to move, and am seriously considering this (as well as various other options) as a possibility. However, I must be doing something wrong...

glueing memory foam - glue recommendation?

Hi has anyone done this, and can they recommend a glue? I need to glue a memory foam pad to a sheet of ply (which with then be covered in fabric). There's references to open-cell and closed-cell foams, and it seems memory foam mattresses (the source of my material) can be either. and I don't...

air hacksaw / body saw blade recommendation?

Yep, got some Eclipse bi-metal blades. They fit the saw a treat. The snow last weekend meant I didn't get to play, but I've got my fingers crossed for this weekend. Thanks
