I store smaller pieces in a purpose-built cavity under my bench. It adds extra heft, so the bench doesn't budge a millimetre when hand planing, etc. I struggle to lift the bench when empty, so when laden, it isn't going anywhere.

I have recently been given a 4' ash stump, that was felled approximately 2 weeks ago. I know what I'd do if I were using it for sawn timber, but what about for turning? I've only ever turned fully (kiln) dried timber, but I understand it being a little green can be advantageous? I appreciate...

I've seen this mentioned repeatedly, but I have used olive oil on at least a dozen boards with no ill effect. Not trying to pick a fight or be argumentative - I was wondering if this has happened first-hand to a member, or is it purely annecdotal?
