    Minus 7c and seasoned timber?

There's a chart here ... http://www.woodbin.com/ref/wood/emc.htm showing timber moisture content at various combinations of air humidity and temperature. It doesn't go down to -7, but over the range shown it doesn't indicate anything more than a very small change with temperature.

In for a penny - on storing planes...

What a great idea. My block plane already has a hole drilled for that purpose (I assume).

    Metal Roof Design

Thanks for all the comments. There's plenty of overlap on the flashing and ridge pieces so plenty of room for whatever I end up using. I think I quite like the idea of sealing with Silicone from the outside - stop the water getting in as soon as possible. Condensation's not too much of an...

    Metal Roof Design

Does the foam break down if its not exposed to UV? I've only used if for sort of bodge jobs, where longevity wasn't an issue.

    Metal Roof Design

Cheers. Its the modern type of square profile sheeting, similar to this ... http://www.cladco.co.uk/34100.htm Unfortunately I can't get at the inboard end of the low roof sheet, however I'm not sure why not - it would be worth my while having another poke around. I assume you're...

    Metal Roof Design

Hi, Sorry for posting a non-woodworking topic, but its sort of related because I can't do any woodworking without a roof on the shed. Anyway it looks like roof insulation is the least of my worries, because the roof as it stands is prone to leaks when the wind's in some directions. I've...

    "U" Value for Sterling Board?

Cheers. I'm working my way through those magic four. Damp was the biggest problem, so making the roof waterproof is a step in the right direction. I still have to sort out gutters and drainage which will hopefully help dry out the masonry. Heat and insulation sort of go together .. there's...

    "U" Value for Sterling Board?

So is "U" more of a rating for the installation, rather than the materials? I found a "k" of 0.13 for Sterling Board. Units are given as Watts per metre per degree. So heat transfer per degree will be k x area / thickness - does that sound right? That would make it 11.8W / sq.m per...

    "U" Value for Sterling Board?

Hi, Still not sure what to do with my roof. Anyone know where I could find a rough U value for Sterlingboard? I know it won't be much, probably significantly worse than wood for the same thickness - but I'm comparing with thin steel sheet here so its got to be an improvement on that...

    Router cutters - less that 1/4 circle round-over ?

Probably not clear on the previous picture, but tilting the cutter or the work to avoid over cutting in the middle, simply means it cuts into the bottom of the work instead. It's a simple physical fact - you can't cut a convex arc of 60 degrees, using a 90 degree round-over.

    Router cutters - less that 1/4 circle round-over ?

Maybe this makes it clearer. On the left you can see that a standard round-over cutter can't make the lower convex curve without cutting where it shouldn't. The right hand shows what you'd have to change to. Superficially it looks like that is the shape that purpose-made ogee cutters will...

    Router cutters - less that 1/4 circle round-over ?

I'll have to see if I can show it graphically. There are plenty of situations where if you want to round over say 60 degrees, then a 90 degree round over bit will cut into the work elsewhere. On the other hand if the requirement isn't readily recognised then maybe that's why the cutters...

    Router cutters - less that 1/4 circle round-over ?

Its tricky to draw it as it is, but on that profile a normal rounding-over cutter would cut into the profile either above or below. If if doesn't look that way then I've not drawn it properly. I think I'll have to try and redraw with quarter-circle cuts superimposed to make it clear. The...

    Router cutters - less that 1/4 circle round-over ?

I think I need to work out how to post a drawing so show what I mean, and example of a profile that couldn't be cut with a normal round-over. (Or maybe I'm wrong and you'll find some blindingly obvious way that I've simply not thought of)

    Router cutters - less that 1/4 circle round-over ?

Hi, I hope you understand the question, but is anyone aware of a supplier for router round-over bits that cut less than a quarter circle arc?

    Why do I get condenstation

Sorry, I missed your point about wanting an "excess". Current small scale schemes are most cost effective when you're reducing your bill, rather than actually selling the surplus. Typical schemes on the table just now pay 15p per unit generated even if you use it yourself, so effectively...

    Why do I get condenstation

I'm sure your correct, but the renewable energy industry's been campaigning hard for feed-in tariffs for at least a few years.

    Why do I get condenstation

I think the idea behind the new "Feed In Tariff" is that you get rewarded for producing energy, rather then subsidised for the upfront costs.
