Antimicrobial coating for my new, selfmade garden table?

Haven’t seen any pics of the table but if there are any metal fittings make sure they are stainless steel. I have just made a five bar gate out of DF using SS coach bolts. The hinge set was galvanised so I had it powder-coated as galvanising is not DF-resistant!!

Antimicrobial coating for my new, selfmade garden table?

+1 for Osmo not being for horizontal surfaces. I tried their preservative on oak slats for a bench followed by Osmo outdoor UV resistant etc etc and it is about to be scraped off! I will leave it untreated this time.

    Wood Snagging on Router Fence

I had exactly the same problem with mine and just couldn’t work it out. I rang them for some advice and they just sent me a replacement instead……it was two years out of warranty. Good service

    Lets talk hedge trimmers.

I have this set-up including the 1 metre carbon insert to reach my high hedges. I also have a normal Stihl petrol hedge trimmer as they are so light and manageable for the lower hedge faces.

    Velcro on Orbital Sander

Do you mean buy a sheet and cut to size/perforate? I imagined the actual 125mm size might be available pre-cut? Ok thanks

    Velcro on Orbital Sander

Thanks Skinny - that sounds a great idea. Where do you get the initial vecro pad that you superglue on please?

    Velcro on Orbital Sander

I have a Skil Orbital Sander 125mm which has suddenly started throwing my Abranet discs. The velcro surface on teh sanding pad needs replacing - how best to go about this please? Whilst I cannot find my model anymore, there are a number of pads available on the net which look very similar -...

    Preserving log cabin

I have just put up a Dunster House summerhouse. We did it on a weekday so that when something went wrong we could ring them for advice. As it turned out no advice needed! It went together perfectly. However, the felt shingle tile roof took days. That was down to me being fussy though! Enjoy!

Anyone got an idea how to find this leak?

Worcester-Bosch engineers tell me they use heat-sensing meters which apparently work well. Not sure how they sense the difference between a hot pipe and free-running hot water though? We had a leak after a newly installed combi but you could hear it under the floor fortunately!

    Oil and seal oak table

I wouldn’t sand the oak to 320 if applying Osmo oil as it will take so long to penetrate the wood.180 max. From experience!

    De Haviland Mosquitoes.

My father was a navigator on Mosquitoes when the squadron moved to Singapore in the early 50s. He loved them ……he was then on Canberras for the remainder of his flying days😊

Series 2, land rover, soft top

What price is he asking? If it is mint then the expensive work will have been done. Keep it clean and properly serviced at least annually and you will love it. I gave a Series 3 which is serviced/maintained twice a year and no issues. Love it.

    Who else thinks this?

Last season Williams’ George Russell (who is actually a Mercedes driver on loan to Williams) was given a drive in Lewis Hamilton’s car because LH was out with Covid. He led much of the race with an excellent drive and would have won had the team not withdrawn him with a suspected ‘puncture’...

    Tormek honing wheel

Yes exactly. I have a large block of green compound which easily adheres to the wheel and then I manually hold the chisel against the wheel gently for a minute or so until I can shave the back of my hand! I also use a leather strop on a block on my bench but only to keep the blade honed during...

    Tormek honing wheel

I inherited my Tormek with a plastic wheel to which I apply green compound and hone my blades perfectly sharp enough. Never needed to apply leather.

    Douglas Fir Five-bar Gate issue

Thanks for all of your replies. I shall probably end up painting a galvanised set as I can’t find SS. They must be the traditional style hinges for the gate. Thanks again

    Douglas Fir Five-bar Gate issue

I have nearly finished a douglas fir five-bar gate, made from old boards I have saved for years for such a project. Just front cross braces to be fitted. The issue is going to be finding stainless steel hanging furniture as the high acetic acid content precludes me using steel, even galvanised...
