    Tongue and Groove Cutting

Yes I plan to but haven’t given it much thought yet. I did it on the last t&g doors I made but that was a few years ago! I will post once I’ve remembered/worked it out again!

    Tongue and Groove Cutting

Thank you. As I said I couldn’t remember staggering them last time. Also if you cut the groove first then it is easier to line up the two ‘tongue cutter’ blades when adjusting for the tongue cut when they are together (clear as mud?!)

    Tongue and Groove Cutting

Just about to cut lengths of tongue and groove in softwood using a trend router cutter. I read in the instructions to stagger the two cutters when cutting the tongue although I don’t recall doing that last time I used it. Should I set them at 90 degrees to each other or not bother?

    Cosy Workshop

What do you do to reduce the effect of the condensation it produces? Do you find your hand tools need more attention to keep them rustfree?

Basic bird box with removal apex lid

Presumably he wants to be able clean it out every year (as you should). A removable base achieves the same and makes cleaning the base (dirtiest part) easier. Just saying….😊

    Wenge Dowel

Amazing! Two perfect replies! I certainly could look for a 5mm plug cutter and I do have an unused lathe which I forgot about - although turning a 5mm piece could be a challenge. Thanks guys

    Wenge Dowel

Somewhere in my workshop is a dowel plate but I cannot find it and I need 5mm wenge dowel to cover recessed 5mm magnets as lid closures on a small wenge box. Any ideas where I can buy some please anyone? I’m not sure Wenge would survive hammering through a dowel plate anyway as it’s so brittle...

How do I remove a large engine oil stain on my resin drive?

I have a block paved drive and whenever anyone visits with a car dripping oil I amply cover the stain with laundry washing powder and just leave it. Works every time. A neighbour had three quite large stains on similar driveway left by builder’s lorry. Same technique - gone in three weeks.

    Gloss Finish on a Box

I have had a practice at inlaying the brass logo into an offcut of the Wenge I have used to make the box. Whilst the finished effect looks great, up close there are small chips missing on a couple of the sharp angles (it is a very brittle wood!). What is the best way to fill these please...

    Advice on routing letters

Rutlands used to supply a pantograph set up for a hand router which from memory would have produced 4” letters. Might be available on the used market.

    Joke Thread II

Years ago I helped a friend on his new greengrocer’s shop’s opening day. We were selling cauliflowers at 30p each or three for a pound. Amazingly many took the offer!
