One for the Americans and Canadians

We use Colis Expat to bring purchases in from abroad. Basically they provide a delivery address in various European countries as well as the USA. So you purchase something and have it delivered to their depot. They then ship it direct to you but they give you the transport price first. It works...

Personalised markings for items you have made

That’s the guy!! Thank you - I had lost their contact details as I would like another one, slightly different. They last very well - mine still looks unused.

Personalised markings for items you have made

I have a brass block which was made for me by a guy in Northampton area. I blacken the logo in a candle flame and tap it a few times onto a name plate I’ve made and then a couple of coats of Osmo Polyx satin.

    Scam warning...

I am trying to buy a bare unit Bosch GKF 12v hand router. Searches on Google produced results around £140 except for two at £74.99. Hello I thought, that sounds like a scam but one of them is near me and has a website with the unit shown at that price. I did a street view in the address and...

First mitre saw, EVO SMS255+ or Bosch GCM8?

+1 for GCM 8. Brilliant accurate Bosch. Bought mine from FFX but through their Ebay page at their suggestion and got I think 15% discount. Ask them…although it was a while ago.

    Scotch Brite Grey

I use the maroon grade with copious amounts of WD40 to clean up planer/drill stand tables. Leaves them like new. Straight lines only when rubbing in line with direction of travel (obviously not with the drill stand!!)

    Grammar Post

Really interesting thank you. Asked a Dutch friend for a useful phrase I could use - he suggested “heb je een elektrische vliegenmepper” which I found out is ‘do you have an electric fly swat?’ !!

Axminster thickness and planner trade machine

As Alli said. Thoroughly clean the bed. I use Liberon Wax and Polish Remover with 0000 wire wool (thank you Matt Estlea). Wipe clean then liberally apply WD40 and medium (maroon) scotchbrite pad worked across the bed in straight lines. Wipe and repeat. Finally wipe clean and apply machine wax...

Axminster at260spt planer thicknesser setup HELP!!

Thank you - that makes me feel more positive about tackling it. I made a mobile base for it out of oak using Peter Parfitt’s plans (New Brit Workshop on YT). He sent me the plans and it is excellent - I couldn’t be without it - I spin the PT everytime I go from planer to thicknesser. Not sure...

    Screw driving bit

I have a Bosch bit set with a holder that connects to your driver and then slot in your choice of bit. Not for use with an impact driver though as you won’t remove the bit from the holder without pliers and a vice!

Dumbing down work wear HSBC / BA

As a young sales rep in the early 80s my elderly Chairman told me ‘a suit might not win you a sale but certainly won’t lose you one.’ Sadly I think that may not now be the case.

    Rust Remover for Tool Restoration

They do a liquid and a gel. Both work well. The gel is very useful but doesn’t seem to stay as s gel for long, turning into the liquid version whilst in its container after a few weeks. I complained and they sent me another gel foc that did the same. Saying that, the liquid works well.

Henry Taylor and Ashley Iles gouges carving tools

I have Ashley Iles carving tools and my late father (a Windsor chair maker and woodturner) always used them. They make all their tools onsite, occasionally to order - I had to wait a fortnight for two of my tools to be made. Very nice to use and hold an edge although I strop often.

Axminster at260spt planer thicknesser setup HELP!!

How did you end up? Did you ever get the planer planar?! I have a 260PT which needs re-setting but having read your comments I am not rushing into it. I will contact Axminster to ask for a copy of their engineers' .pdf and have a read but it would be good to hear how you got on in the end (I...
