Wood isn't what it used to be? It's not the wood its the paint

@ " water based paints erode from the surface." Many new cars are painted using water-based.

Wood isn't what it used to be? It's not the wood its the paint

I've never used it. But when I look at (say), a car that is ten years old and the paint is still perfect given minus 10 degrees to plus 30 degrees, together with all the flex a car can go through - one has to wonder why, for example, "paint for external metal" (i.e. railings) can only last "up...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

I found the documentary I referred to, it was re-uploaded last December by someone. Brilliant story from the pilots and crews that took part and the efforts that went into the mission. The lone Vulcan refueled 7 times on the way South, with Tankers refueling Tankers to make it happen. They...

    Strange dreams

I've also had these vivid dreams on and off for nine months (average of around once a week). It's always about "events". My alarm wakes me for work, and when I am having one of those extremely vivid dreams, I am grateful for the alarm. The Guardian reported it on 26/11/2020 when the Museum of...

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

For anyone interested in the Vulcan bombers, this (also note at 7m 16s) was the last flight of a Vulcan. Piloted by Martin Withers of Falklands history. It appears he gives those engines one more "rev-up" at the end before final shut down. There used to be an hour long documentary entitled...

    Retirement options

Structure is good. Retirement is time relative. When/if one gets into the 60's, it's more attractive to spend time more freely. Even on the continuation of structure, young man ;) :)

I don't think they would believe it nowadays?

In 2015, I asked four, thirty year old people, if they knew what Hiroshima or Nagasaki meant/was about. They had never heard those words before.

Did You Build a Bar During The Pandemic?

An acquaintance of mine (a self employed builder, mid forties), converted his large shed into a bar during April. In December, he was playing darts with his son in there on a Friday night and (yup) caught Coronavirus from his son. He was very ill for about a week. Thankfully, he's OK now.

Shield Perspex / Acetate 1.2m wide (ish) x 1m high

Thank you all very much. My son's employer has promised screen protection by the weekend. If that doesn't happen, he will be taking mine in on Sunday. I hope some Manager does not then say; "That screen you have brought in is not pleasing/acceptable to the business" or, similar corporate...

Good evening, My son got called back into work today with 24 hours notice. A car showroom. It transpires that I need to build a shield for his desk, and quickly. The frame is not a problem. Can anyone recommend (anything) that I can get my hands on within 24 hours please? Perspex or...

Could UKWorkshopforum join to make some sort of PPE for NHS?

75,000 visors have been made for NHS staff and well received by many photo's on the front line. They are grateful for anything. Care homes will need more. The people at the NHS front line couldn't give a **** about regs because "Anything is better than Nothing", my words...
