    New company, new career

The new PM wanted that detail during UK Covid when policy was being made. Not just a summary. The lockdown files: Rishi Sunak on what we weren’t told https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-lockdown-files-rishi-sunak-on-what-we-werent-told

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

If I, (or a business) as the purchaser of your chair at £120 are not VAT registered, the VAT cannot be reclaimed and so you send the £20 into GOV with your VAT return.

    Painting/decorating

I would size those walls, leave overnight then put Wallrock paper on top. It covers a multitude of problems like that and doesn't shrink. Also, it's paste the wall, so it's easy to put up.

    Mortgage rates / interest etc

When Truss et al announced that mini budget of a big supply of debt (tax cuts), the markets reacted. It's so bizarre (incompetence?) that nowhere in Downing St thought - that would not happen and pressed on anyway.

    Joke Thread II

My humour/joke of #stardate today: Got the job at Downing Street; - counselling Larry the Cat who has lived there since 2011. Speaking to him via a Russian "Meowic" interpreter, it transpires he is "deeply disappointed" and "highly offended" that four Prime Ministers have decided not to live...

    UK Travel Ideas

+1 more from me for the Scottish Highlands. Also walk part of the Pennine Way? But you need to plan the month and week. It can be disorientating in bad weather on high ground and it rains a lot. Your kids might enjoy a day on it (or not) 😉, but they will probably never forget the memory! 😁 Edale...

    Feeling old

This happened on Friday. Two professional electricians turned up at work to take photos of the electrical installation and meter. They were both early twenties. I asked them if they knew what a Floppy Disc was. The blank look on their faces 🤣😂 Even the words "Amstrad Computers" also meant nothing.

Neither could I. Hence being shocked by it. I would have thought there was a legal basis for same. Neither could I disbelieve this chap though. His financial status is secure and no reason to lie to me.

This did shock me yesterday. I've known this chap for nearly eight years, he's about 40 something and has done very well for himself financially (UK). "We found my Dad dead on Friday at 8am. I called an ambulance and was told it would be about 45 minutes." "Eight hours later, a funeral...

Hypothesis: If you simultaneously put 600 hundred BBC cameras in front of 600 politician's, giving them 3 seconds to answer this: What is seven times eight? 😉

    Hand held electric planer advice

Small comment from experience; Make sure to let your finger (s) stay out of the way until the power planer stops spinning.

Mark B is spot on. Size the walls and leave overnight to fully dry.

Damp in Victorian house dining room

Yes - good thread. And good to hear it's all OK two years on. Peter Ward on YT has some vids. He also has a pretty comprehensive website: heritage-house.org which is all about old houses and damp. He's a geochemist and geologist.
