Seized pivot pin on wadkin AGS 12

I haven't been as good about taking " before" pictures as I should, but I'll take some more and post them on the restore thread for my saw. I'll have more questions anyway I'm sure...

Seized pivot pin on wadkin AGS 12

You are right it was steel/alloy of some kind. Looked bronze when I pulled it out, but was covered with synthetic ATF so just tossed it in the bucket of Oil Eater. Pulled it out of the bucket earlier tonight to take a closer look and it looks like it has some cadmium or other plating (and some...

Seized pivot pin on wadkin AGS 12

I have a '78 AGS10, but I think the design is pretty much identical.... I literally just took that pin out of the saw tonight (actually took it out the side of the saw... haven't had the chance to get the table off yet!) and I'm not sure how it can be seized so completely tbh. Mine seems to...

Removing the tilt angle shaft from a Wadkin Bursgreen AGS 10

I got the whole raise/lower assembly apart this evening. It has a thrust bearing against the inner worm, but just a bronze washer against the outer (handle) side. This saw is 100% original from what I can tell, but wouldn't a thrust bearing on both ends of the shaft make it easier to use? Also...

Removing the tilt angle shaft from a Wadkin Bursgreen AGS 10

Found the grub screw.... And.... got it. Top still on! :) Thanks for the info, I wouldn't have found that otherwise I think. Also you can't have fat hands and get that thing out though the front easily. Was barely able to get it. lol Also, is it me or is there a huge amount of...

    Shaper Origin.. again.

Having looked into these in depth as part of a potential Venture investment in the company early on, I said no, because the use case seemed extremely esoteric. If you have any shop space a CNC makes much more sense from a capability and flexibility standpoint. The only use case that I could...

Removing the tilt angle shaft from a Wadkin Bursgreen AGS 10

Hmmm, I'll give it a try. Can't hurt I guess. Less to do with the difficulty of taking the top off and more to do with proper space to work on it indoors while there is a monsoon going on outside. I was just trying to finish the handwheels this week in my nighttime shop class so I can move on...

Removing the tilt angle shaft from a Wadkin Bursgreen AGS 10

Ah, ok. I was looking for it on the tub of the saw. I'll see if I can get to it through the blade opening as I'm not ready to take the table off yet. Once that is out I'm guessing you just work the worm forward on the rack and then pull it the rest of the way out the front...

Removing the tilt angle shaft from a Wadkin Bursgreen AGS 10

Hi Deema, Thanks for the reply. Is that grub screw in the raise/lower shaft housing or the main tub casting itself? I'm not finding it on that exploded parts diagram for whatever reason and your picture of the screw is s close shot so I can't tell where that is located on the saw. Also, great...

Removing the tilt angle shaft from a Wadkin Bursgreen AGS 10

Hi Everyone, For those of you who have owned or restored an AGS 10 is there a simple/elegant way to get the entire blade tilt shaft (edit: I meant raise/lower shaft) out of the saw? From the looks of the exploded parts diagram once you take the wheel off it looks like it it will just pull...

    Wadkin AGS knowledge required

Would be interested in seeing how that sliding table works/is attached to the saw/bar.... I have an earlier AGS and just found a sliding table attachment that will probably work on it, but think I may modify it...

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

So the BRA inner blade washer/stabilizer had a removable pin you could add to it? That is an interesting idea if that is the case...

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

I asked the seller about it out of curiosity and he very kindly sent me a few more pictures.... you win the prize. It is a BRA (48?) although the tag on it says Wadkin LTD. which is interesting as the main machine is branded Wadkin Bursgreen. It also is a 12" saw. If the Tag follow Wadkin...

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

I thought I had seen most of the permutations of the WB crosscut saws, but that was a new (and extremely cool) iteration. With that much bearing contact area (on top of that fat arm) it must be a crazy solid saw.

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

Hi Wallace, Cool, do you happen to have any pictures of the original "pin" or was it missing in your boxed one as well? It would be cool to see any pictures of the head itself too. It is similar to the first or the second one in my picture at the top? I saw the thread you did on your CK when...

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

I looked up W/WB BRA literature from various time periods and most of them are shown in at least one picture using a trenching head that looks very similar to the second one in my original picture. It appears both the 14 and 16 were standard with 1" arbors and a metric arbor was the option, so...

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

I'm pretty confident these things were used on the BRA given all the data, but your point about the 50hs vs 60hs motors is interesting... the saw arbors and spindle moulder arbors seem to be set to spin at the same RPMs irrespective of HZ, but I guess that doesn't count when they are direct...

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

I just took at look at the AGS10 manual and it was offered in the UK with 5/8th as well "with 20 and 25mm as options." That is pretty interesting if it was the standard over your side of the pond as well. It also recommended a max size of 6" for any dado or grooving heads, so sort of confirms...

Tung oil, skinning in the can

Nitrogen or Argon... or really any heavier than air based gas. Easiest way to buy the stuff is in the cans that are sold to preserve wine. Squirt it in the wine bottle once or twice, put the cork back on. Same principal. Feels like you are buying an empty can though! There are cheaper ways to...

    Wadkin Bursgreen Trenching Heads Question

All I know is that the arbor nut on my old Delta Unisaw threaded perfectly onto the AGS arbor and I recently "accidentally" picked up a complete sliding table attachment (and all its bits) made by Delta in the 70s sometime and from my initial fooling around with it it looks like it will mount to...
