Linseed putty to fill small defects on joinery - how long to dry?

I use Milliput inlays on some of my turnings. Goes 'off' after 24 with no shrinkage.

    India’s successful Moon Landing

Of course, besides our Overseas Aid to India, we make a huge contribution to the Indians based in the Scammers Paradise of Kolkata, with the blessing of Indian National/Local government and a corrupt Police Force that does very little to shut these operations down.

    Dealing with freshly felled timber

If they were my lengths and I intended to turn them, then my first job would be to remove the pith, which would reduce the stress and tension the wood is under, thus greatly reducing the chances of radial cracking. Depending on the concentricity of your pieces, you could simply chainsaw down...

Any recommendations for light, mains powered angled drill for bowl sanding?

Hmmm......... yes I know. But reading Rodpr's comments I could find no mention of the lathe having to remain "stationary".

Any recommendations for light, mains powered angled drill for bowl sanding?

As suggested, I would give the Inertia Sander a go. They are very simple to make

    Chuck?

Hi Steve, Ive been putting a number of wooden handles on my files recently. My first question is does your tang taper? If so you don't have to drill the hole the full 3/4" all the way.

    Moisture tester

Hi trvir, in a word ...yes. Over the autumn / winter I move the wood sequentially up through the 6 shelf's to the top, before mixing it 50:50 with my smokeless ovoid's coal. You can fit a "damper" to the top (exhaust) outlet hole to control the temperature, but I simply just use a kitchen...

    Anti-seize compound

Or Copper Ease. When I used to work on offshore oil exploration rigs, as a Geologist from the 70's to the 90's, the drilling operation used a substance called Pipe Dope on the threaded parts of the dill pipe. I managed to 'half-inch' a small glass vial of the stuff, which is still knocking...

    Moisture tester

Hi Steve and trvir, I posted this photo on a previous thread. As Stig points out, there are many YT videos out there. The concept is very basic thermodynamics , hole drilled in bottom (cold air in), heat source applied (incandescent light bulb) warm air rises and vented through hole near top of...

    Moisture tester

Only use meters as a general guide for determining moisture content for my turned stuff. Best indicator is weigh and record. Also you can get a 'feel' for certain pieces. Also not sure of the degree of accuracy of the resistivity measurements the thicker the wood. My homemade wood kiln, is a...

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

Cheers Esqy. I do actually have the tang and wood beneath the ferrule, when I attempt to punch a divot onto the ferrule (saves drilling). However, I think its down to the fact that I'm using copper, which easily gets put out of shape.

Post a photo of the last thing you turned

Hi currently doing the same with a bunch of old files using Oak/Beech and 22mm used copper pipe for the ferrule. How do you get that 'punch' in the ferrule without distorting the ferrule itself? I've reverted to drilling a tiny hole with panel pin drilled in. Are you going to put an edge on the...

What can I do with a large oak log?

Personally, I would take the pith out of that centre slab, hopefully to reduce radial cracking.

    WiFi extenders

Installed the Deco S4 mesh in our bungalow a few years ago. Easy to install and reliable. Compatible with Amazon Alexa. To save on installing new Cat5/6 cable you can also look at "Ethernet over the mains".

    FTAGH Free to good home

Thanks Fossil. I emailed the local Woodturning Association, but have heard nothing back. So I don't intend to spend any more time on this. Its now dissembled in the back of my garage.

    VPN's

Switched from NordVPN to Surfshark, wish I had'nt, although cheaper, more difficult to set up and gives irritating little freezes, every now and then. Will go back back to Nord when my current SurfShark subscription runs out.

    FTAGH Free to good home

Hi Yorkie, thanks for the suggestion. Must admit I did not know that Shropshire had a Woodturning Association.

    Why?

It would probably fly off the shelves in Chelsea/Kensington at the "I Saw You Coming" curio shop.
